Mrs. Petunia, Ft. Lauderdale Age and Occupation: 31, College Professor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Engineering Student/Part-time Barista Engagement Date: December 8, 2006 Wedding Date: March 2, 2008 Venue: Riverside Hotel Blogging Since: August 6, 2007 About Me: Our original idea of running off to get married quickly turned into an event with 100+ guests once other people got involved and I, too, got swept away in the lovely madness that is wedding planning. Mr. Petunia and I are obsessed with all things World of Warcraft, Monopoly, and Nintendo, so we’re planning on including some fun “game-y” details into our wedding.
About Mrs. Petunia

We have about one more week before the official wedding photos “drop like they’re hot,” so it’s time for the honeymoon recap!Okay, so it wasn’t real Paris, but the Paris Las Vegas welcomed us with open arms nonetheless and well, since we’ve never been to Paris, France anyway, we were impressed! We couldn’t have asked for better weather either.

The resort is pretty impressive at night, too (as is the whole Vegas strip):

And we couldn’t have asked for a better view direct out our room window, front and center:

We tried to visit as many of the hotels on the strip (and around) as possible. Based on our experience and our visits, Mr. Petunia and I agreed that we would definitely stay at the Paris on a second visit. We also liked Caesar’s Palace (although I’ve heard that only if you get a room in one of the renovated towers).

Speaking strictly “honeymoons,” the Venetian, we think, would be another top choice.

Seasoned Vegas travelers: which hotel do you think ranks highest on the romance meter?

I’m obsessed with Vegas and my favorite hotels are Mandalay Bay and Venetian (where you can actually get reasonable rates) and uber-splurges like Bellagio and the Wynn.

I’m so glad you guys had a good time on your honeymoon– can’t wait to see photos!

I am fortunate enough to have stayed at the wynn once and towels on the floor, dimmed lights and chocolates on your pillow are enough to make everyone feel a little romantic! but i do agree the paris is another favorite. that patio restaurant in the front is one of my faves!

Has anyone stayed at the Signature at MGM?

triciaj, I have! I loved it. Very civilized, more plush hotel and less hotel-with-a-casino. Plus, you’re a 3-minute (indoor) walk away from the casino action at the MGM Grand. And now that Vegas has established the train line or whatever they call it that goes up and down the strip, it’s not so much of a hassle to stay out by the MGM Grand (out of the center of the action). The rooms are totally, totally plush and luxurious, and we got a great deal on a 1-BR suite with two (count them, two) bathrooms! It was sweet.

I am a seasoned Vegas traveler (since I’m from Socal) and I can tell you that the best bang for your buck as far as romance and service goes, by far, is “The Hotel” at the Mandalay Bay. They were the first to build those second towers (i.e. Signature at MGM, Venezio at Venetian, renovated towers at Caesars). The Hotel is connected to the casino at Mandalay Bay, but it doesn’t have a casino itself. So, when you walk through the doors, you don’t smell cigarette smoke, you smell fresh Gardenias and jasmine. They even have their own entrance, so it took me about 15 min to check in, instead of the 45 min wait at other hotels. They have an awesome spa and you get full use of the Mandalay Bay pools and river. There’s a coffee table book on luxury hotels around the world and The Hotel was the only Vegas hotel to be featured. Each of the suites (yes they are all suites) feature a separate living room with a HUGE flat panel, fax machine, printer, in room wi-fi, floor to ceiling windows and chic leather couches and a bar and a bathroom should you have guests over. Then, the bedroom, has a wall of closets, another flat panel television, another window and the most heavenly bathroom on the strip. The bathroom had a television as well, was fully marble, had a standing marble shower as well as a tub so big and so deep that I swam in it! Plus, they have these hoighty toighty toiletries that smelled heavenly. They’re so good, they sell them downstairs in the gift shop and the prices were terribly, terribly high. Also, each room has these huge fluffy pima cotton robes and slippers. The best part is (if you really shop around, you can book a room for $160/night!!!) I paid $180 per night for a Sat/Sun/Mon stay. Sometimes though, its over $600 a night. Don’t trust the reviews that tell you it takes FOREVER to reach the pool. Apparently, those reviews were written by sloths, b/c i timed it and it took me about 5 minutes at a leisurely pace, while window shopping. Yeah…I really like Vegas :-)

I love the Venetian and everytime I go back to Vegas I stay there. I have been to Paris once and I have to say I did not enjoy it as much and the rooms weren’t anything to rave about.

My aunt got married in Caesar’s Palace a few years ago (it was gorgeous!), and now, she and her husband go back to Vegas every year for their anniversary. :]

Great timing for this post. Can’t wait to hear more about what you did. We just booked a trip to Vegas last night. I haven’t been there since I was a little girl, so I need the suggestions! Keep them coming! :)

We love the Luxor. Their spa suites are really funky. Our first stay there we got our in-room-spa to overlook the mountains. Nothing like soaking in a hot tub watching the sunset over the desert iniside a pyramid for a little romance ala vegas!

I lived in Vegas last year and absolutely loved it. I completely agree with SoCalBride. THE Hotel is the place to be. Further, the new and improved Moorea Beach has just opened, so you can go to the beach in the middle of the desert! Mandalay also has the best pool on the strip!

Also, if you guys are looking for shows, go to TIXforLess in Fashion Show Mall on the north end of the strip across from the Wynn. Great deals and much shorter line then the one in front of Polo Towers.

PM me if you need any Vegas answers!

Mandalay Bay is nice and quiet with yummy restaurants… This hotel is at the southern most tip of the strip, so its not good if you want to walk from hotel to hotel (Paris is in the perfect spot for that). The cool thing about Mandalay is the indoor shark exhibit and the beach type pool with sand and waves. Plus the beach/pool is shared with the Four Seasons (so you know it’s nice) - The only thing you may want to check into/avoid would be the fact that Mandalay bay books a lot of boxing matches at the hotel so it can be busy if there is boxing… But the rooms are almost exactly like paris, and I love the fact that the hotel is a little off the beaten path…

I went to Vegas last week for the first time and stayed at the Flamingo in one of the new renovated Go rooms. The bed was amazingly comfy, the headboards are cool and modern, and there is a flat screen TV embedded in the bathroom mirror!!!!!! If you do a google search for Flamingo Go Room you will see what I’m talking about. I’m excited to read more of your posts of what you did! Did you go to any shows are eat anywhere amazing? Keep the posts coming, lol!
