Wiki of the Day: Bridesmaid Gifts!

March 12th, 2008 @ 4:30 pm by Wiki

Today’s wiki of the day is one of the hottest topic on bridal blogs and messageboards everywhere - bridesmaid gifts!

When it came to deciding what to give my maids, I tried to give them something they really wanted. I gave two of them ipod shuffles (this was 3 years ago so they had just come out) and an itunes gift card. The third bridesmaid received tons of MAC makeup (luckily my makeup artist MOH got me a huge discount).

Brides are always looking for unique and thoughtful gifts to give their gals. When it comes to bridesmaid gifts, what are some of the best tips and ideas that you’ve picked up along the way?

Please feel free to add to the wiki, or comment below!

y’know, i’ve felt pretty torn about this.
i’d never heard of giving the bridesmaids such expensive gifts before weddingbee.
i do understand how brides want to show their appreciation, but i guss i wanted to put the question to the hive…do you think they’re really neccessary…?

i’m paying for their dresses as their gift. i felt that was a better use of money than having the bridesmaids shell out $200+ for a dress AND then have me shell out another $200 for gifts that they may not even like. in the end, its much easier this way.

I spent no more than $35 on each BM. I had 6 and they all loved their gifts.

-tote (clearance $2.50)
-personalized tag on tote (free- leftover paper)
-cocktail ring to wear on the wedding day ($25)
-polyester pashmina ($5)
-Wooden foot massager (clearance .19)
-hand written card (.20)
-a bunch of fancy hair/skin care samples (free - from bridal show I went to)

They paid for their own dresses that were about $45 each (gotta love clearance)

I like the idea of paying for dresses as their gift. I have been in a wedding and bridesmaid dresses can be pricey! I think another classic gift could be a set of pearls. http://www.premiumpearl.com offers a beautiful selection of pearls from around the globe. You should definitely keep that in mind!! A marriage is something that is supposed to last forever and pearls are meant to be timeless. It’s a wonderful symbol of love and appreciation!!

lb - you definitely don’t need to spend a lot to thank your maids! it’s a very personal decision and i really believe a gift can be awesome no matter what it costs. :)

Yes, I agree. Help fund the dresses and skip the gifts that no one really wants anyways.

I’m torn as well about bridesmaids gifts. Bridesmaids are probably some of the most deserving bunch who should get everything, but with wedding expenses already at a high, it’s pretty hard to get something really good, times the number of bridesmaids you have. I hope that I don’t appear cheap to any of my bridesmaids for keeping my gifts well below the price of an ipod shuffle. So far I bought them these cute little Indian pouches where I can put some stuff in. I haven’t finalized what to put in them yet, but the whole package will probably be something that I would give them had it been their birthday (on a budget ;) ).

Darn! MAC makeup for BMs is a great idea. I wish I’d heard it, oh, about a year and a half ago. (Before my wedding) =)
