Printing Problems

March 13th, 2008 @ 11:19 am by Mrs. Hydrangea

A couple of days ago, I received a coupon code for a popular online printing company to get half off our order. I figured this would be the perfect time to print our rehearsal dinner invitations and save a little cash. I previously decided that this was where I would print the invites, and I used their InDesign templates to create my document, so it looked like everything was lining out perfectly.

I had e-mailed them a few weeks earlier because, even though I followed their guidelines, the image of my invitation showed up pixelated on my screen. I wanted to be sure this was not going to happen when it would print, that it was just my screen. I never got a reply.

I figured it was due to spam mail, so two days ago I re-sent the e-mail to be sure that my cards would be nice and clear when printed. Again, no reply (their website says someone will be in touch within 48 hours).

I decided to call them today during my lunch break and was informed by their customer service that all of their e-mails go to an unmonitored inbox so that is why I didn’t receive a reply. What is the point of advertising their e-mail information if they don’t even reply?!?

So, now I’m at a standstill. Do I still use them and take the great deal even though my experience with them has been mediocre, at best, so far? Or do I find another company that will print my tea length invitations and envelopes?

What sources have you all used for printing stationery for your wedding?

If it is Vistaprint, their PDF proof is pixelated, but the actual printed pieces print smooth and beautifully. As long as you use high resolution, high quality images and vector type, that is.

That e-mail policy is downright stupid.

haha, Susan you took the words out of my mouth. I ended up calling V*** because I thought the image I uploaded was bad, in the end, the postcards I ordered turned out great!

Lol. VP is the *first* company I thought of when I read your entry. My stuff was kind of pixelated in the proof but it was great when I got it. And I also emailed and didn’t hear back, so that answers that question.

I’ve also found that if you google “vistaprint discount” you can normally find some codes for 30-80% off. I did this and got customized notepads for all of my BM for $3.99.

I’m also assuming it’s VP - if it is, go ahead with them. My postcards were beautiful and came in less than half the time they said.

I’m a graphic designer, and we use Vistaprint a lot for our clients who have low budgets. If this is the company you are dealing with, call them. They are very responsive. We’ve had a few jobs where the color looks off and they have reprinted at no extra cost! And we get to keep the bad copies too.

I was going to say the same thing about vistaprint - also I would try calling them - they are super helpful on the phone…

ASK to see the first print before continuing… even if u have to pay 10 just for that one its worth it!

yeah, you shouldn’t have to worry as long as you used indesign because the program does not rastorize the file (turn it into pixels).

If you have images in the file, they are the only part they could come out pixelated. As long as your images are 300 dpi at size they will be a o k too.

best of luck!

Well my experience with this vendor is that the sizing was totally off and that my final std magnets looked really hastily done. They were easy enough to deal with when i was dissatisfied, and got a full refund. Nevertheless, i wished i had just spent a little more money and hadn’t wasted all that time.

I don’t know what Emily is saying, but it sounds like she knows what she’s talking about!

I will say this, Vistaprint is hit and miss with their customer service. I’ve used them for a lot of things (wedding and not wedding). When I ordered my STD magnets, the proof looked funny, but I was assured everything would be fine. It was one of their deigns that I edited a bit and added a photo. Well, low and behold the black wasn’t quite black and I forget now, but something else was off. The woman said she’d run another round of magnets free of charge and if they still weren’t right, call back and they’d refund my money. When the next batch came same as the first, the new woman that I got on the phone not only refused to give me so much as a credit, she was rude! She relied on a proof that I was previously told would not be the final result. So, buyer beware(?)
