Wedding Website - Makeover

March 13th, 2008 @ 4:57 pm by Mrs. Flamingo

When Mr. Flamingo and I decided that we were officially gonna set the date, I couldn’t help but to design our wedding website. Though, I wasn’t very fond of the idea of doing it from scratch… I opted for a basic template design from Weddingannouncer.com

Everyone in my family had never heard about a wedding website before, so they thought I was the most organized and smartest bride ever.  Hahaha - I found that very funny. (On a side note- our wedsite needs to be perfectly bilingual so with wedding announcer there were certain things that I couldn’t translate.)

First attempt - using wedding announcer (click to enlarge)

When my family saw the design of the website they were amazed but I couldn’t help but feel a little ashamed. Then I read Miss Lovebug’s post about her blogger wedding website and it was official - I needed to redo our website. When I told Mr. Flamingo about it… he thought I was nuts!

Once I decided on my invitation design, it was easier to design the website to fit the whole theme and style. I used the back of the invitation as the background image and I created vintage looking buttons. But I’m having issues with the header. Since I have various elements in my invitations, I don’t know what I should use.

Please tell me which one you would go with. (Click to enlarge image)

option a: Chandelieroption b: Street with clock option c: Decorative elementsoption d: - None of the above. (If you choose this option, please specify what you would do.)

I want to show you all the elements when they are completely done.  I got to get crackin’ on the rest of the content of the website…

I don’t think I could decide between A and B. I really like them both!

The color scheme is very elegant–marriage just needs the extra “r” (but I’m sure you’ve caught that already. ; ) I’d choose the first header.

Option A. I am totally digging the dark background with the light text right now. It is so beautiful and dramatic.

A. The darker background and the design are more striking than the others.

I like A the most - a suggestion, though. So you don’t get a million comments from your english speaking guests thinking you’ve misspelled marriage, you may want to include an article before each.

Something like,
The Wedding - Le Mariage

Basically, just add another French word that’s not so close to an English one to make the bilingual header obvious.

A or B. I like them both a lot, though if the rest of your site is white, then having a brown header like A might work better.

I like a the best, especially if the website itself will be dark text on a white background. This way, you have the contrast of white text on dark background to give it some oomph, just at the top of the page.

Ah! Thanks! Learn something new every day. Maybe Katie’s suggestion about adding “Le” to it would help, but I’m sure it’ll be fine since the guests attending would understand.

Hey! I love the chandelier in A but I think I still pick B, maybe b/c it’s lighter.
I woudn’t change it to “Le Mariage”, I’m sure everyone involved and looking at your site will get it. I’m excited for the change, not b/c I didn’t like your other one but b/c I like looking at everything you do (you know I stalk you….lol)

Alright heres the tally so far

Option A: 20
Option B: 7
One or the other: 4

Okay, so option A is winning by far. I will do a second tally with Option A in both a dark and light background.

Thanks everyone… I update it very shortly.

Also, I was just looking at etsy for various inspiration and saw these and immediately thought of your chandelier theme. Just thought I’d share them with you!

I like both A and B a lot! I think B is my favorite, especially if you switched B to dark background with light font. Overall I think the headers are really great, but I’m not crazy about how “Wedding - Mariage” looks on any of the options. It’s not confusing; I just don’t think it’s necessary above your names and the font seems out of place. Maybe it would look better if you changed it back to “Our Marriage - Notre Mariage”…

Use all of the elements. The Chandelier at the bginning, the Clock when you talk about times and or schedules of events and the hotel awning when you give hotel info!
