I’m Not Really A Superhero…

My blogging alter-ego - Super Bride Miss Hummingbird:
(Now with new procrastination power! Eat your little heart out, She-Ra!)

As much as I am excited about the wedding, sometimes I feel like the planning of it is requiring crazy super human abilities. Like Superman/Clark Kent, I often feel like I’m leading two different lives - the one in which I am planning the wedding and the one in which I am doing everything else.

Lately, this has lead to a lot of procrastination on the wedding side of things. While some of my tasks are things I enjoy dealing with, the stuff is totally not my cup of tea I would much rather put it to the back of my mind until it is absolutely necessary to deal with it.

For me, one of these put-to-the-back-of-your-mind things is flowers. Now don’t get me wrong. In real life, I enjoy flowers. Tulips are my favourite and Mr. Hum has been known to buy them for me on occasion. However, when it comes to weddings, the emphasis on and the cost associated with them is weirdly distressing to me. (Seriously, confront me with a catalogue of arrangements and I grab my head and fall to the ground like I’m being confronted with my own personal kryptonite. “Can’t take it . . . too many peonies!”)

Anyway, finally after months and months of putting it off, I am biting the bullet and dealing with my ultimate foe as I have an appointment with a florist this Saturday, just over 100 days out from the wedding. I was originally planning to wait even longer but I eventually succumbed because I realized I didn’t want to be dealing with trying to sign a vendor in June and because I realized that not booking it was messing with my bridal mojo. Plus, once I did it, I could officially say once and for all that everything was booked, and really, what more could a bride want?

I’m a little nervous heading into my battle with the blooms, but now that I know it’s happening, I feel kind of good to finally push forward and get this last major thing accomplished.

So how about it, readers? What have you procrastinated about and/or not felt like dealing on your big list of wedding works? Even the best superheroes have flaws so lay it on the line and tell me yours.

I have to say, the DIY aspects of my wedding are my little monster in the closet. I really, really (really) don’t want to deal with the projects I’ve set myself up for, but I do enjoy the personal touches that DIY projects bring to a wedding, so I’ll probably be crying, glue gun in hand, the night before the big day.

I am totally procrastinating about squaring things away w/ my priest, musicians, and readers so that I can finally get started on making my programs.

I must say I had been putting off booking an officiant…I was waiting to ask my Uncle (who is a baptist minister) to do our ceremony…but was reluctant b/c FI and I are not religious. Finally asked this past weekend and he said YES. Hooray! I seriously don’t know what I was going to do if he said no….we’re only 5 months away from the big day.

I’m sure it doesn’t help having to deal with your true-love/arch-nemesis: “We’ll Deal With It Next Month Man”
Ok, the name is still a work in progress. I’ll deal with that next month.

Fellow floral procrastinator here. We had our FIRST florist meeting yesterday… 64 days from the wedding!

Seriously. Shopping for bm’s dresses with my sister was seriously unfun….and finding an officiant seemed so unpleasant that we went with the first person we found….and I’m still dragging my feet on finding someone to do the ceremony music….ughhhhh. For the flowers, the cost of it all totally stressed me out, so we’re going to do non-floral or just dropping flowers in vases.

Well, being post-wedding, I don’t have those particular tasks to procrastinate about.

However, when it comes to putting off things, I really SHOULD know better than to read a Miss Hum post during work hours. I just spent 15-minutes designing my own dragon-tailed, bat-winged, sword-wielding, super-busty (there was no flat-chested option :) ) super woman.

VERY empowering– AND perfect timing as I just gave my two-weeks notice to launch myself into the world of self-employment!

Ironically, the one thing I thought I’d excel at - writing the ceremony. Still haven’t started. Month till the wedding. Feel better?
