About Mrs. Hydrangea

Let’s Rehearse

March 14th, 2008 @ 5:38 pm by Mrs. Hydrangea

Since I decided to take on the task of creating our wedding invitations, I figured what the heck, might as well do them all. To be honest, playing with Illustrator and coming up with invitations is actually something I look forward to…. a lot.

Because Mr. H’s family isn’t used to throwing a rehearsal dinner, I offered to come up with an invitation for it. And, since it’s one of those items I can knock out way in advance, I decided to get it off my plate.

Mr. H and I perused different stationers to get some inspiration and when I found this invitation at Wedding Paper Divas, Mr. H loved it. Mr. H showing excitement about paper is rare (ok, it never happens) so I tried to come up with something to mimic what he liked, but add the elements that I wanted.

(from Wedding Paper Divas)

I knew that I wanted to do tea length invitations, with the invite on the front and a map with directions from the church to the restaurant on the back. I also wanted a decorative envelope to match as well. To come up with the chandelier image, I asked our very own Miss Flamingo how she created the image on her awesome invitations. She was gracious enough to create the image for me (my Illustrator skills aren’t THAT great) with a sample photo I gave her.

Here is what we ended up with:

(Front)

(Back)

(Envelope)

They are now being printed, so I’ll update you on my printing source and the quality once we get them in the mail!

That’s lovely! How would you suggest someone with no background in design get started? I would love to do our own wedding invitations to save money (and I think it would be fun).

hahahahahahahahah ….why don’t we all just put chandeliers on our invites? :D

Me, then Miss Flamingo, then you…we should start a club or something! Your rehearsal dinner invites (the main part) is the twin of the main part of my wedding invite - except black and white instead of white and black!

I love these!! I actually ordered the same thing from Wedding Paper Divas for my rehearsal dinner because I have no clue how to make them myself. Just one question…what program do you use to make the little map on your directions section? Thanks!

This one is for all you chandelier lovers.
I just commissioned a chandelier stamp from PaperNosh at Etsy http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=10290138. She loved the idea of selling her design so much she has made more and are available in a huge variety of sizes to fit your perfect stationary needs.
You might want to use this on your envelopes?

hey! I know this is an old post… but I was at Michael’s today and saw they have notecards with a similar (not quite as cute but similar) chandelier graphic in their dollar bin. Not sure about the quality but thought I’d give you a heads up! :)
