About Mrs. Penguin

Suite Dreams…

March 14th, 2008 @ 6:34 pm by Mrs. Penguin

My first round of invitations are done like dinner!  My California shower is this Saturday, and I thought it would be a good opportunity to hand deliver a small portion of these bad boys to my friends and family.  At $2.32 a pop for postage, every hand delivery counts!

The invitation details that I showed off earlier all got wrapped up in a double faced ivory satin bow. I wanted to finish off the Louis Tiffany stamps I had left over from my Save The Dates, but the stamps were too tall for my envelopes so I had to fold them over:

Doh. I’ll be purchasing smaller stamps for the rest of the invitations.

Okay so if this is all deja vu, that’s because, yes, my invitations look just like my favors, only in a larger proportion. My guests may never want to see another Berry Blue Jelly Belly after they’ve left my wedding. But they make such cute invitation fillers…

I was asking my friend Michelle whether she was going to hand address her invitations or run them through the computer printer. She said that she always felt that a handwritten invitation was always a little more “special” to open (so true). But in the end, I couldn’t bring myself to do it, so instead I hand glyphed the names on the boxes instead (thanks Miss Licorice for the tutorial!). Choosing glyphs takes as much time as handwriting! I hope my guests notice how fancy-schmancy their names look but I bet they wont :). Here’s how they came out…

z13583304

I printed out their names on text weight paper, rounded the corners and ran them through the Xyron. I used REPOSITIONABLE adhesive rather than permanent, that way you can peel off the outer label as you please.

z13583305
who knew one could be so fond of a machine that lays down adhesive?

Next, taking inspiration from both Miss Gummibear and Jordan Ferney, I adhered these simple labels to boxes. I like how they turned out very clean!

z13583306

Before I labeled them, I made sure to number each return card to correspond with the invitee, making sure that if cards are returned without names, I can figure out who exactly was RSVP’ing.

z13583307

All done, with a whopping $30 saved in postage, ready to be handed out on Saturday!

z13583308

It’s 1:30 AM and time for some sleep!

I love the bow and the beans! They’ll taste just as good as they look I’m sure. I too must defer to your mad skills, you are truly the Invitation Sensei!

Yo Pengy, I just want you to know, that you and your favors and your stationary have been keeping me sleepless with guilt for the lack of personal touch and effort mine are in comparison. Coaster favors woulda been perfect for my theme AND they are also a running joke among some friends & family (making them even MORE perfect). I was thoroughly traumatized after your favor post, but to add salt to my wound, you post THIS with your perfectly soft and elegant bow! I’m over here thinking over and over about how I can change mine up, add to them, spend the time… I’ve come up with nothing clever, I have no Gucco, no talent with paper…

So, thanks a lot!!

(mumbles under breath with a sore loser face): nice job.

:) Thanks gals! You know if it weren’t for Weddingbee, I’m not sure I’d go “all out” like this all the time, but heck, I need to find something to blog about, and do I really need more than 5 hours of sleep a day? Hmm….maybe…

@Bride888:

@Christine:
The font is called “Burgues Script”, get it here:

@Michelle: You crazy, lady!

@Kat: I need a total of 65, I’ll probably hand deliver about 20, and mail the rest!

@fashionablemd: 5X6 inch boxes from http://www.papermart.com

@melodicsighs: I bought my gocco from Judy at http://northwoodstudios.tripod.com/
I have the PG 5 model which works perfectly (its the cheaper model)…if you plan on using it a TON you can buy the PG-11 which is much easier to use if youre doing multiple print overlays…in hindsite (because I plan on using my gocco FOREVER!) I wish I would have bought this model, just because its a little easier to line things up with. Obviously, its a little more expensive.

thanks so much! i am sad to have let the one on ebay that i was watching go because it went for a little cheaper than judy is selling… but, it would probably be beneficial to buy one new from her, yes?

is there a fear of ever running out of / being unable to get supplies? (i’ve seen sites talking about “save gocco” and how they’re not made any more or as much?)
