Viva Las Vegas Part II: The Suite Life

March 14th, 2008 @ 10:04 am by Mrs. Petunia

We’re suckers for suites, so the moment we arrived at the Paris and we were offered an upgrade to a Calais suite for $95 a night, we took it: it was our honeymoon after all.

Our first suite was nice, but we agreed we wouldn’t call it amazing:

The television in the bedroom was encased in a piece of a furniture that hid it and that upon turning the TV on, made the unit appear and disappear. We first thought it tres cool, but actually, it made a grating noise and was horrendously loud.

The second and subsequent nights, we stayed in a suite on the 27th floor. Apparently, all rooms on the 25th floor and above have been renovated. The furniture is in better condition, and the televisions are all flat screens with high definition:

This is the tub where we enjoyed several bubble baths. Note to all: be less generous with your bubble bath pourin’ in a jet spa tub than you would in your good old standard one back home — we almost had a “situation” the first time around that was funny only because the hotel staff didn’t have to be called in the end:

The bedroom was nice and roomy and the bed was super comfortable, with a pillow-top mattress:

Overall, we’d give the second suite four thumbs up! Now, one Weddingbee reader posted yesterday that she wouldn’t rave about the Paris rooms — we never saw the standard rooms, so we can’t speak for them and I do have a feeling that rooms at the Bellagio, Venetian, etc. are probably much nicer. I can somewhat speak for regular rooms at the MGM because I have stayed there before, too. I found them to be lovely as well, with a great spacious bathroom to boot — but that was almost 4 years ago. It seems Vegas changes so much so quickly. The good news, I would think, is that because of that there are many options available, and many deals to be found, no?

My fiance and I are spending the first 2 nights of our honeymoon in Vegas (before moving on to the Grand Canyon and Sedona) and I’m wondering if anyone can recommend a hotel near the strip with a 2 person jacuzzi tub for unter $200 a night. I’ve looked at Expedia and such, but haven’t found one (if one exists).

Ive stayed in a few places in Vegas and my favorite is still the Wynn. Holy crap the STANDARD rooms there are bigger than my whole house. Ginormous bathrooms, flat screens. Yeah. I was on a business trip. That was the best part of it :)
