Finally… Emotionally Unstable

March 16th, 2008 @ 10:27 am by Mrs. Flamingo

I’ve been a fan of Stacy Ann Ferguson since she came out with her first album back in the 90’s as part of an all girl group called Wild Orchid (she’s the blond bomb shell). You might be wondering who the heck I’m talking about - you may know her better by the name Fergie.

When I purchased Fergie’s album, The Dutchess, I loved all the tunes but particularly fell in love with her last track entitled Finally (featuring John Legend). The words were simply beautiful and I envisioned having this tune play during my preparation the day of our wedding. Last week, the song played on the radio while I was on my way to work… and I started crying. It was the first time really that I started crying of joy for something wedding related. It was kinda weird. (If this is a preview of the actual wedding day, someone crazy glue a kleenex box to my hand).

She performed a preview of this song at the Grammys. It gives me shivers everytime I hear it. You can  check out the lyrics here.

Anybody else love this song? Do you have a song which makes you emotionally unstable… lol?

“Maybe I’m Amazed” by Paul McCartney (and Wings)… for years now, when that song has come on, I start crying… even years BEFORE I met my fiance. It’s just always touched me.

There are a lot of songs that make me cry now when I hear them but that’s the one that’s been THE cry-er for years.

I cry at everything, but some real tear-jerkers for me include:

“Pomp and Circumstance” (aka the graduation song/”Land of Hope and glory”) by Sir Edward Elgin (i DON’T KNOW WHY! :))

“What a difference a Day makes” by Della Reese (my sister will sing this at the ceremony)

“Could I have this dance (for the rest of my life)” by Anne Murray

and
“Flower duet” from the opera Lakme by delibes (possibly my processional song)

I am such a crier! I only have to hear the opening chords of these songs to get choked up-

I will follow you into the dark- Death Cab for Cutie (the song makes me SOB alone in the car. It’s totally pathetic.)

Valencia- the Decemberists (totally West Side Story/Romeo and Juliet)

The Shining- Badly Drawn Boy (my processional song if I wasn’t getting married in a stuffy church)

“One Day” from Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.

Yes, I am a huuuuuuuuuuuuge geek. But I’m okay with my nerd status. Part of me wanted it to be my processional music, but the finace nixed it and considering that I probably won’t need any help crying it’s probably a good idea. So it’s going to be the last song that plays before the bridal party enters so this beautiful song still is part of our big day.

My first comment ever, yaaay! =)

I a SUCH a sucker for songs! Get me everytime. The #1, “Push” by Matchbox 20 (lots of memories), “Traveling Soldier” by the Dixie Chicks, “Sarabeth” by Rascal Flatts… and anything involving Daddies and daughters. My boyfriend, (no ring yet, ladies) makes so much fun of me… but he has secret song emotions that I love him too much to reveal here.

I love the entire Duchess album, and not afraid to admit it. And yes, I do think of how happy I am with FI whenever I hear “Finally” that I get emotional.
My other songs that get me in such a lovey - tears of joy moment for would be “Look After You” by The Fray (I wanted to walk down the aisle to it, but it’s not feasible at our outdoor ceremony) and “Spend My Life With You” by Tamia & Eric Benet. Those two are my top choices for our first dance.

I saw the American version of “Shall We Dance” on a plane a few weeks after we got engaged, and the song over the end credits was Peter Gabriel’s “The Book of Love.”I thought it was just a great last dance tune, and would really wrap up the evening well. The groom agreed, we bought it through iTunes, done.

From then on, each time it came up on shuffle (and it came up a statistically improbable number of times, I have to say), I got more and more weepy. I mean, the last dance at the reception? That’s the end of my wedding! The last moment of the day I’ve been planning for months!

Eventually we had to change the last dance song. I wouldn’t have been able to make it through that one.
