Mrs. Hummingbird, Toronto Age and Occupation: 25, Publishing Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Videogame Designer/Cartoonist Engagement Date: May 4, 2007 Wedding Date: June 28, 2008 Blogging Since: September 18, 2007 Venue: A garden wedding followed by a tented reception on Mr. Hummingbird's father's property. I’m stoked to marry my best friend and to throw what I hope will be the most fun and colourful party of our lives.
About Mrs. Hummingbird

When we first came up with the idea of incorporating little video game touches to the wedding, something we knew we wanted to tie into it was our favours. My first idea was to get little gourmet chocolate coins done up and put them in custom made little yellow boxes like the ones they had in Super Mario Brothers similar to this . . .

Unfortunately, this plan fell quickly by the wayside as
1) The place we were originally going to get the chocolates done up and closed,
2) Any other place seemed to charge an arm and a leg to print the number of chocolate coins we needed,
3) We realized that, with everything else we needed to do, we really didn’t have time to hand paint 100 little yellow boxes.

I was feeling kind of stressed out being put back to square one, when I went to grab a snack and realized the answer to my problems was in my hungry little hands . . .

Cookies!

Although I usually choose salty over sweet, one of my great weaknesses in life is an awesome cookie. When confronted with a really good one (you know the kind - soft, chewy, sweet) I just can’t say no! So I started to investigate our options when I remembered a great little bakery in our old neighbourhood that I used to pass by on my way home from work.

Not only was their stuff super delicious (just the smell of the place after a long hard day was enough to leave me jonesing for the most sugary of desserts), but the bakery also took custom orders, something which was definitely a plus for our crazy customized wedding.

We’re still working out all the details of course (what the cookies will look like exactly and what flavour they’ll be), but right I’m totally happy to have come across something that’s not only cute, but which works with what I want for our day.

So ladies, entertain me this dreary Monday and fill me in - What favours are you going with for your wedding?

I decorated little metal tins w/ scrapbook paper and a little picture of us on the lid and then put about a tablespoon of wildflower seeds. Now I just need to come up w/ some sort of label for the bottom telling people what they are. I don’t want them wondering why they were given dirt and what looks like bird seed. Maybe some planting instructions on the bottom will do the trick.

You can do one-up cookies!

We did personalized decks of cards–kind of pricey, but completely appropriate for both of our families and all of our friends. That being said, if I had it all to do over again, I’d probably do something edible.

Mmmmm- love cookie favors!

We’re doing Ethel M.’s milk chocolate bars. A step up from Hershey’s, but still chocolatey heaven. :) We did a taste test and liked the plain flavor best.

We are doing chocolate covered fortune cookies that have a custom fortune inside.
They are so yummy, and pretty unique, I think!

After lots of thinking of how to incorporate our college mascot (The Florida Gators) into our wedding without being, well… “sporting event”, my fiance and I have come up with having small chocolate alligators in cute little boxes. It was important to us to have something relating to our college in our wedding since that’s where we met, so I’m hoping the idea will materialize the way I imagine it! Good luck with your cookies!

Ghiradelli chocolate squares, various “flavors”, in a small box, with a small insert that explains how my FI brought them back from the Ghiradelli store in San Francisco for me after a business trip, and they’ve been a staple on our coffee table and the nightly treat we share ever since.

Miss Hummingbird!! I’ve had the cookies from that place. They are WONDERFUL and sooooooooooooo delicious. A little pricey but so unique. Last year my FI’s mom bought me a little bride cookie from there.

We are doing a huge, fantastic CANDY BUFFET! An all-you-can-eat buffet with more candy than anyone ever needs. :)

Both FI and I have our degrees in music (he plays piano, I sing), so we transformed his living room into our recording studio and recorded a CD of jazz and Broadway tunes for our favors.

there was a bakery near my parents house that’s closed now, but used to have little critters and cartoon characters made out of royal icing (or something similarly tooth-breakingly-hard) with gumball bodies. Maybe you could find someone to make those for you?
