DIY Flowers…. Is It Possible?!

March 17th, 2008 @ 6:49 pm by Mrs. Cream Puff

I do believe it is! For some people, at least. ;) To help anyone interested in doing their own flowers, here’s a little PSA:

Last November Miss Penguin and I both went to a DIY Flower Workshop hosted by Karen of Huckleberry Karen Designs. I have to say, I learned SO MUCH from that workshop. Ever since, I’ve been making pretty arrangements in my house and admiring the centerpieces in Safeway. Let’s just say I’ve gained a whole new appreciation for flowers. I’m not sure I’m physically capable of making a gorgeous bouquet, but there were a lot of girls there who were surprised by their own talent and are planning to DIY their flowers!

I just got an email from Karen–it turns out that she’s doing another one on April 6th! For those San Francisco Bay Area brides who are interested in doing your own flowers (or just learning more about flowers in general), this was an awesome workshop. Check it out here! I’m going to go again, because practice makes perfect. :)

Here are some pictures from the one I went to:

Here’s Jackie (a fellow student) and Miss Penguin!

And here’s me!

And on a completely unrelated note, HAPPY ST. PATTY’S DAY, EVERYONE!

Wow creampuff, I’m impressed! Flowers are like the final DIY frontier for me, and I think I’m going to stay on my side of the line and admire you from here :)

Don’t get me wrong, Miss Tiramisu–there’s no way I’m doing my own flowers for my wedding! I’m far too much of a stress case to be capable of doing that!

What are those feather like flowers called on the outside of the bouquet? They look great!

They’re spider mums! Aren’t they awesome?! I love them.

Looks great!

I did 90% of our flowers DIY. If you pick the right kind of flowers and leave a couple hours open the day before to do them they really aren’t that hard. Here are some pictures of mine from the boards:

Oh, and we used spider mums for some of the centerpieces. They look great for days and you don’t need very many to make a great centerpiece.

You and the flowers look great in that picture!

It’d be one thing to do someone else’s flowers for them after that class. I can’t imagine doing my own though - way too much stress!

I would love to DIY my flowers, yours look great! I am too afraid they will all die an hour before the ceremony or something tragic. This is one project I think I will save for later.
