A Really Big Shoe

March 18th, 2008 @ 3:41 pm by Mrs. Hummingbird

Having documented my previous shoe troubles, picking out my wedding shoes was not something I was looking forward to. Hours of shoving my toes into pinchy little shoes is definitely not my cup of tea. However, after my first fitting, my seamstress needed to have me come in with my special shoes so she could work out the hem. It was decided. I had to bite the bullet and start the hunt.

The beginning was a bit rough because of the width of my feet. Unfortunately for me, many of the designer shoes are too narrow to accommodate my feet and many of the styles I liked were too small. In fact, although many pairs were marked as being my size, there were a number I could not even get my toes into.

After about an hour and dozens of pairs worth of searching, I had managed only to find one pair of heels that fit me and even then, they weren’t really what I was looking for. The colour wasn’t quite right, they were a little too tall and, weather permitting, we’re getting married in a garden, so the idea of wearing a pair of heels that would sink into the ground while I walked was not incredibly appealing.

Frustrated, tired and hungry, I knew it was time to expand my search to other types of shoes if I was going to make any headway. And make headway I did when I found these babies from Naturalizer.

For the first time on the entire trip, not only had I found something comfortable and breathable (that fit!), but they even came in a cute silvery colour! Between that and the leftover Christmas gift certificate I could apply to the purchase (thank you grandpa!), I was sold.

They are definitely different than what I was originally expecting, but I’m happy to have a comfortable and cute shoe. Plus, I kind of like the idea of being a little silly and unconventional by wearing metallic sneakers underneath my formal gown.

Now that I’ve shared my little shoe secret, I want to hear yours. What kind of shoes did you ladies pick for your big day? How did you decide?

(Author’s Note: After a very busy wedding month, I am jumping back into things and hosting another chat on BeeTV on Thursday night, 7 PM EST! Hope to “see” some of you there!)

I wore Converse sneakers underneath my wedding dress! They were light blue, pink, black, and grey and were double-tongued lowtops with a “black sheep” print. My husband wore Converse as well with his tux with tails and our flower girls and ring bearers wore Converse as well! We made it a real family affair. :) Cheers to unconventional “glass slippers.”

I love those. You can wear those at the wedding and beyond. Your feet will thank you for wearing something so comfy.

Love ‘em! And they’ll have good traction for boogie-ing to Leo Sayer…. ;)

I wore my black cowgirl boots! Totally me! but hey- the heels were the perfect height- I didn’t need to have my dress shortened (which would have been a big expensive pain with my dress!)
You go girl!
