Personalized Permanents

March 18th, 2008 @ 1:44 pm by Mrs. Hydrangea

Since we’ve decided to go with a photobook as our guestbook, we’ll most likely need some Sharpies for our guests to use to sign the pages. I really wanted something cute or personalized, but that is hard to come by. Until I found this:

Sharpie will let you personalize their markers with your names, date and even a little icon. For $11.99 you will get six of these cute things. I only wonder if we might need the thin tip Sharpies so that the names will be legible.

What will you all use for your guestbooks pens?

how cute! We used sharpies with a fine point for our book. * one suggestion with the photo book, guests think its like a year book so they may want to write a long story about you. I had someone at the guestbook table asking people nicely to keep it short and sweet!

Personalized Sharpies are great, but you may want to reconsider. Only the water-based paint markers from Sharpie are acid-free and fade resistant. Normal Sharpies will lose their color and yellow over time, so you might want to check out archival pens. These are specifically made so they won’t fade over time - these are your wedding memories, after all, and you want them to last! uh oh - I love Sharpies. This is a bad thing for me to find out about :) Too bad you can’t order a multicolored personalized pack :)

I didn’t do a traditional guest book - but I will say I LOVED reading all the notes people left :)

What a great idea! I actually forgot to provide a guestbook pen…oops! Thankfully, the club provided a lovely pen with their logo on it!

we used photos from our engagement sessions, and designed a book with a lot of white space around the photos. we had a nice leather-bound book printed and used thin sharpies in all the bright colors to have people sign. I agree — people thought it was yearbook time so the first few wrote these long huge messages and then others followed suit!! maybe have your bridal party all write short messages first so people take the hint. and have them do it BEFORE the craziness of the wedding day or else they will never have the opportunity!

I agree with Jaime. We used “photo pens”.. or something like that from Michael’s. We read somewhere that Sharpies can bleed after awhile and make the paper around the writing look yellow from the ink bleeding. Just a thought!

This post could not have come at a better time, as I am looking for pens for the exact same thing! I have the same issue, though; I was hoping to find fine point pens to use, but this pesonalization is so cute! I’m torn!

I’m torn too! I LOVE the personalized idea, but want the ink to last over time. So I’m sure I’ll go the archival route to be safe.

Are you all purchasing your photo guestbooks or making them yourselves?? If you’re making them, where did you find your mat board or paper that you’re using??
