Wedding Banter Burnout

March 18th, 2008 @ 12:10 pm by Mrs. Jasmine

“So, how’s wedding planning going?”

“Have you sent me the guest list/called the officiant/ordered the invitations?”

“Do you think John’s coming to your wedding? He is so cute– is he still single?”

“Have you called the photographer/sent photos to the florist/booked the suite?”

“Sooooo….how’s wedding planning going?”

Yadda, yadda, yadda. Is anyone else tired of talking about their wedding? I know it’s probably near blasphemous to admit this on the wedding blog, so don’t worry– I still have lots and lots of wedding talk left!

I think I’m just at one of those temporary roadblocks where talking about the wedding has become really tedious and tiring. No matter who I talk to, conversation turns back to the wedding. People always ask me how wedding planning is going, which is actually really sweet and considerate. I wish I had a more exciting answer for them, because I always seem to respond, “Oh, it’s going well!” —- whether it is or isn’t :) When I talk to my mom or Mr. Jasmine, we always end up running through half a million things we need to check off our to-do list. It would all be a lot more fun to chat about if there wasn’t a stressful element of “ahh, need to get it all done somehow!!!” pulsing behind every conversation.

Is anyone else just plain tired of talking about their wedding? What else do you want to talk about? I want to talk about Lipstick Jungle– does anyone else watch this but me? (hides head in shame)

Yay cookiechristina! I didn’t think I would get into it as much as I have, but now it’s my new favorite show. it is the ultimate escape! i can’t wait for this week’s episode.

People ask me how it is going and say I it is going well. I’m glad they don’t ask specific questions. Especially if they are invited, I’m not going to go into details about an event they are going to attend. I want things to be a surprise to guests. And if people aren’t invited (certain coworkers) I dont want to go on and on because duh, they aren’t even invited!

I just want it to be June already!

I feel your pain. I am tired of talking wedding…all…the…time (aside from on WB).

I definitely get tired of it, especially since people always seem to expect to hear the worst… and when I talk about how great it all is, they all go, “Oh, just wait! It’s gonna get crazy!” You know what, it might not! People seem so disappointed that this isn’t the most stressful process for us. Sorry! lol

My sister is here visiting for the week, and she brought my six-month-old niece, and it is soooo nice to have something other than the wedding to occupy everyone’s mind. Especially my mom, who was driving me seriously crazy. I told my sister I really should pay for part of her plane ticket, she has done me such a favor.

It’s funny — when we first got engaged, people were always asking about the wedding. back then, we didn’t have anything booked so there wasn’t much to say. Then, when we were making all the decisions and I was thrilled to talk about it with anyone who would listen, no one asked or cared to know. Now we’re less than 2 months out and people are starting to be curious again. Of course, I’ve made all major decisions, and I don’t have much to say! It’s like Murphy’s law.

amen sister friend! Is it too much to ask to just talk about other stuff? OR what about people just asking how you are doing in other areas of life?
wow that was a mini-rant ;-) Don’t watch Lipstick Jungle, I am a Gilmore Girls, Heroes, and Dirty Sexy Money person.

I make a policy to NOT talk about my wedding, period. I thought it was a plus — who wants to hear about my wedding all the time? The people who ask tend to just ask out of politeness, not because they are DYING to know how my latest meeting with the florist went. So, I just don’t talk about it, because most of the time even I don’t find it interesting.
However, two of my fiance’s family friends have commented to him behind my back that I don’t seem like I am excited for the wedding and they think I am not going to be a good wife just because I don’t talk about the wedding all the time!

Rachel says:

yes!

for me it was a bit different than most. I have a pretty intelligent, quirky, and talented group of friends but for some reason they all thought it would be incredibly clever and original to ask me “so… who is going to photograph YOUR wedding?”

I am a wedding photographer, and of course the choice was really important and one of the first things we settled. And I can’t blame friends and acquaintances for asking an obvious question but still… how many times can you play the same joke over and over and over in your social small talk life?

Indigo says:

I don’t talk about my wedding either just because it’s very personal to me and I don’t want a bunch of unsolicited advice, warnings, questions, etc. And those times where I do get excited about something, I chat with the fiance or blog about it.

I LOVE LOVE Lipstick Jungle..all those beautiful clothes..the billionaire boyfriend, the high powered women, the hunky sweet young thang…oooh chile.. it’s my fav indulgence right now.

lisa says:

omg I love lipstick jungle! I’ve been catching up on back episodes online. I seriously heart their clothes and shoes.. *drool*.

Lali says:

lipstick jungle hasn’t been brought to italy yet i think, but i am so tired of answering that question too! i try to think of something else and BAM somebody always takes me back to my never ending to do list!

Jane says:

I hate talking about my wedding. It stresses me out. I already feel like i have a mental check list that is always nagging me. I wanna talk about Lipstick Jungle as well! I love that show!

Who thinks Nico’s hubby is going to find out about Kirby this week? And does anyone else think Nico’s hubby might be having an affair too?

19.
miss teaberry says:

ahh wedding burnout!! i am currently on a one-week break from all things wedding-related…except for, of course, wedding bee because i don’t want to miss anything while i am trying to love my wedding again!

Mrs. caramel says:

lol.. all this talk about Lipstick Jungle is so funny! I do enjoy watching it, although it will never replace SATC no matter how hard they push Candace Bushnell’s face on it. I do feel that 3 seems emptier than 4 women, but I can see why people like it more than Cashere Mafia. Sometimes I get overwhelmed with what Joe does for Victory (yeah RIGHT a guy like that exists!) it’s like Mr. Big times a thousand times overload!! I do really like Brooke Shields character and Nico’s situation makes me feel super uncomfortable just watching!!
ok…. I am ranting about this show so obviously I do watch it every week! hahaha…. I also watch WAYYY too much TV! =(
