Crafting Is Contagious

My Maid of Honor.

The funny thing about my MOH and I is that even though we are pretty much polar opposites in on the outside, we are fundamentally the same person. We’ve been friends for over 17 years and inseparable for the majority of them. Currently she’s a forest firefighter, and can be seen sporting the latest gym wear fashions, and I like wedding crafts and wearing makeup and dresses on occasion. Twins on the outside, we are not.

She took on the task of planning my wine and food themed shower, and as an experienced wine drinker, I knew she could do no wrong…but I was not expecting this:

Text Message Conversation:

MOH: I am driving to Michaels right now for supplies to make some of your shower decorations. Kill me now. I must really love you…
Penguin: Ha Ha! That is INSANE!
MOH: Yeah, you should see my face right now. I just walked in. What are your colors?
Penguin: Grey, Tiffany Blue. My crap better match perfectly or you’re fired. J/K smoochies, you know all I really want to do is get drunk so don’t strain yourself, boodle!
MOH: This being crafty crap is exhausting.
Penguin: Preachin’ to the choir. 10-4 Bridezilla out.

So, after that long drawn out story, here are the fruits of her labor!Handmade Wine Charms…a whole handful of them! She used Earring hoops and various beads she hunted down around town.

She wrapped them in grey tissue paper and included a few dark chocolates in these cute little brown bags. Guests at the shower all got to take a goodie bag home with them, filled with wine charms and dark chocolate.

She also made about 12 or so of these wine cork stands (She and her sister went on a wine binge to collect the corks) to stand up my pictures for the “guess her age” game at the shower.

Miss Penguin does not condone underage drinking.

She did such an AMAZING job with the shower, I just about died. Do your friends feel pressured to get crafty because you’re a DIY bride?

yes, it’s rough. I’m towards the end of the whole thing! I made 500 of these charms as favors for the wedding! I can’t believe it! Luckily my MOH helped too!

Oh, you’ve got me kicking myself. Earring hoops would have been so much easier to bead than memory wire rings for the wine charms that I made and nobody used. ;)

haha, yes but only when they’re planning something for me, otherwise they just crack wise about me being martha stewart and just do as they normally would. i love them. while i was planning my best friend’s shower, my sister was already bemoaning and worried about how she’ll top that for my shower and i’m not even engaged yet. lol. but i did promise her that i’d help if she wanted [or needed] me to.

i’m the “martha” of my girls (as my most recently married friend has always called me)… and they have always relied on me for the decor and DIY stuff for all events wedding and other… so now that i’m the one getting married, and they are doing it for me, i know they are afraid of not living up to the precedence i set for other events. while i am a perfectionist when it comes to that kind of stuff, i’m just flattered that they are taking on the tasks and it’s all being done in love for me! it’s kind of a nice feeling to get to sit it out on the planning for once =)
