About Miss Cupcake

Not My Type

March 20th, 2008 @ 1:30 pm by Miss Cupcake

When Mr. Cupcake and I first met, neither of us was attracted to the other in a “you’re my type” kind of way. On the contrary, we were completely NOT each other’s type, at least in the superficial, physical sense.Mr. Cupcake normally went for tan, beachy blonde types; I am pretty much as pale and brunette as they come. His fantasy celebrity picks do not, in the slightest, resemble me:

Marisa Miller.
She of Victoria’s Secret and Sports Illustrated. Not gonna lie — she’s definitely not ugly.

Melissa Joan Hart.
I totally don’t get this one. I always found her kind of plain looking, but Mr. Cupcake has a thing for her. Interesting.

Bonnie Hunt.
I’m totally serious. He thinks she is so hot. I mean yeah, she isn’t bad looking and she has a great sense of humor, but celebrity-fantasy worthy? Strange.

Mr. Cupcake is not that far off from the type of guy I normally found myself attracted to…. except for one thing.

In college, I had a hard-and-fast rule that I’d steer clear of Abercrombie-wearing, Jeep-driving guys, because they seemed to be the bad boys that would only hurt you.

What did Mr. Cupcake’s wardrobe mainly consist of when we met? Abercrombie. And what did he drive? A Jeep Wrangler.

We often laugh about how we’re so different from who we expected to end up with, yet somehow we are a perfect fit. I realized Mr. Cupcake’s Abercrombie clothes and big ol’ Jeep didn’t define him, and I guess he found something he liked about me under my dark brown hair and pale skin :-)

Are you and your mister each other’s “type”?

haha, this post made me giggle because we’re in exactly the opposite situation…both FH and I had previously been in serious relationships with people who are not at all what we characterized as our “types” and we are exactly each others types - guess it’s just one more sign that we’re meant to be! :)

Mr Buttah loves Beyonce. I mean LOVES her!!! He also use to think I looked like Mariah Carey and Vanessa Williams. All of them are pretty, I fit his “type” mostly because I am light skinned which is totally what he goes for.
Lucky for him I dont really have a type. I use to like guys that were taller than me (Iam 5′7″) But he is almost 5′8″. So I didnt stick to that one rule when it came to him. Guess it doesnt matter when you are in love!

Mary says:

Miss Cupcake, speaking of celebrity stuff, you look like Rachel Weisz!

How funny…My mr. is the first guy I dated that wasn’t in the military. I keep waiting for him to go away. We joke because he was my summer fling. I’m his first girlfriend.

JangerToBe says:

Definitely not! He preferred blondes to brunettes before me, though he admits that I’ve changed his mind - his crushes include Jessica Biel, Rachel Bilson and Katharine McPhee (Kat McPhee? Really?).

And he didn’t fit my typical physical type. He’s Asian, and while I never DIDN’T want to date an Asian guy, it was never really on my radar. Still, I knew he was the guy for me when I laid eyes on him.

So, right away? Not each other’s type. But now he’s my ideal :)

Ooh thank you Mary!!!! That’s quite a compliment :-)

I’m not at all his type! Mr. GB was into curvy… er… top heavy girls, and had never had a particular interest in asians. For me, well, everyone decided I don’t have a type at all - I go on a feeling. I’ve dated tall attractive men, short chubby men, all kinds - if you are not quasimodo, you had a chance with me.

brooklyn baby says:

Not at ALL! I opt for the skinny scruffy dark-haired offbeat-clothing-wearing indie-rock-listening hipster type; he is tall and athletic (he used to play baseball), has light brown hair, and has been known to wear polo shirts (which I hate) and sometimes with khakis (gasp!). He used to date perky blonde all-American girls, and I am just the opposite - I’m South Indian (but quite removed from that culture) with olive skin and long dark curly hair and my overall style is, for lack of a better word, kind of hipster and modern.

We are NOT each others’ types but clearly there’s more to a relationship than fitting into a certain type.

I know this may sound really awful, but I wasn’t physically attracted to my Mr. before we started dating simply because he was overweight and not very fashion forward (and I usually went for slender/athletic trendy guys). I loved him very much as a friend, and we got along great, but I just couldn’t see myself dating him. I felt extremely shallow.

Over time, that initial unattraction faded, and I now truly think he’s the most gorgeous guy in the entire world :). In a way, I’m glad it happened this way because it made me realize that looks really don’t matter that much, and it made me know that I love him for all the right reasons :).

Nicole R. says:

LOL that last one is pretty funny. I LOVE Marissa Miller… she’s gorgeous! My man’s type is Brooke Burke, but he like’s blondes (me!) so I find that odd. I guess he just finds her pretty.

As far as looks go, FH is the epitome of my type. I like super skinny, tall boys with intense eyes and great hair, preferably brown.

I, on the other hand, was not so much his type. From what he has said, he tends to be attracted to super skinny goth-type girls. His big celebrity crush is Milla Jovavich (I can’t really argue with that). I’m a thin-to-average preppy-ish girl.

Fun post! Mr. Jasmine is totally my type: dark hair, broad shoulders, sweet smile. It doesn’t surprise me in the least that I totally fell for him. I’m definitely his type too as he loves the short/petite girls, esp with dark hair.

Oh and I concur with Mary: you totally do look like Rachel Weisz, who I adore.

julieulie says:

Not in the least.
He liked short, blonde, blue eyed, skinny girls with big boobs. I’m 5′8, dark dark dark brown hair and eyes, and definitely not skinny (though I do have the excess cleavage).
I always liked the infamous tall, dark, and handsome — my fiance isn’t particularly tall (5′10) and has dirty blonde hair. He is definitely not what I pictured myself winding up with, and I will confess that in the beginning part of the reason I kept turning him down when he asked me out was because I wasn’t attracted to him at all.
I guess we’ve both overcome our prejudices!

ErinMarieMack says:

I LOVE brunettes with olive skin. My FI is blonde with green eyes. However, his personality is just my type, and I think he gets more adorable every day (of course I am a bit biased) :)

KaSandra says:

If you line up all the guys I ever dated before dh they would look really similar. When we meet he was the skinniest guy I had ever dated. I usually went for bald head 6′4 250 lb football players. But I have since fattend him up lol I am not Dh’s typical type. He loves dark skinned women but he likes nature girls. I care abotu my hair and nails and clothes toomuch for that. It’s an on going joke that he married a city girl!

Melissa Joan Hart is a total sweetheart in real life and she’s just silly fun. I can see why Mr. C loves her! But, I’m biased cause I know she’s super duper awesome :)

Ley says:

Haha- the only other serious girlfriend my fiance had before me was a super-short, petite, Southern, athletic blonde! I’m a tall, “robust,” artistic/tree hugger, Northern brunette. lol. As for him, well…I only dated “urban” dark, brooding, shorter artists and musicians, but somehow ended up with an optimistic, outgoing, 6′10″, Southern football-playing accountant!

19.
indecisivebride says:

I agree that you look like Rachel Weiz!

I didn’t have a physical type really except I preferred really tall guys. I’m only 5′, but I always dated guys who were 6′ until my fiance who is almost 5′7″. Oddly, my fiance also preferred taller girls (always about the same height as him) so he says it’s weird for him to be with such a shorty.

ErinSea says:

Oh yes, not only are we each other’s types, we’re pretty much the male and female version of each other. Tall, brunette, freckled, beach-loving, Polo wearing, conservative talk radio listening, much older than we really are, corny joke telling, faith seeking, kids. I dated a string of taller than 6′4″ engineers and realized that something in my personality made me fit very well with that slightly creative, slightly awkward analytical type guy. BrianSea isn’t an engineer, he’s 6′5″ and an auditor, and well, I guess that’s close enough.

Ditto. His celebrity crushes are Selma Hayek and Rhianna. And what am I? An all-American preppy blonde gal. Zero in common there.

Miss Lovebug says:

Love this post. I don’t know who Mr. Lovebug’s celebrity crushes are (he claims to have none, ha!), but I do know this. My 20s were spent dating guys who really WEREN’T my type. Mr. LB was, meanwhile, exactly what I always ultimately pictured myself with. Go figure.

And, um, you’re way prettier than Melissa Joan Hart (she’s blah!)

23.
ceche says:

I love dark-haired, lanky guys with nice teeth and that is exactly what I got! My husband is 6′5″ and I do believe he has the metabolism of 10 crack addicts. His celeb crush is Ashley Judd, which I can’t really argue with.

mr. bee wasn’t my type in that i always thought i would marry someone who was korean. he is my type in that he’s super duper smart and thoughtful.

i don’t think he envisioned marrying a crazy girl like me though. ;)

jnicholea says:

I think my guy had completely given up on marriage and dating altogether. So I am not sure that he had a type :) I kind of want to ask him after this post though.
