About Mrs. Toucan

Planning our ceremony! Choosing are ceremony has been relatively painless compared to most of our other wedding decisions partly because the Catholic Church gives you this little book with the whole layout, and then says “insert any passage A1-A5 here.” It’s really like fill in the blanks. But mostly, it was easy for me because I made Mr. Toucan make the decisions…

Okay, actually I didn’t make him do it alone. He started getting this confused look on his face, so I helped. :)

And then he got camera shy because I kept shoving the camera in his face:

There weren’t many options for us to choose from.

Inside the book

Some passages and readings were actually quite nice and poetic, while others… Hellz Heavens, no! But like I said, it was a relatively quick and easy process for us, and we finished in about an hour. Victory!

What was the easiest part of wedding planning for you?

oh i recognize that book! and that confused look while reading it! haha. we have the special non-mass version, though we still have to choose 4 verses. isnt it funny how DIFFERENT the passages are within the same groups? we’ve spent about 40 minutes on it & are half way done, so i agree- very easy!

Oh man, how I wish we were religious - if only for the ease of writing the ceremony! We have pretty much been given a blank slate regarding ours, and it’s killing us.

Our Unitarian minister gave us a basic layout of the wedding ceremony in a workbook too. I googled wedding readings to personalize it. Planning out the ceremony was probably the easiest thing for us too. It might have taken a day to figure out the way we wanted it.

I’m going through the same thing as you - the hardest part was the 1st reading…Even FI was like, “these are all sexist…”

I know that book!!! And I agree with E that most of the selections for the first reading were all about the wife being submissive…

We were all about personalizing so many aspects of the wedding, but the ceremony was 100% by the book…of Common Prayer. Too easy!

I’d gotten a book from the local library called “The Wedding Ceremony Planner” that had a bazillion options and ideas and checklists and whatnot (actually a great resource if you’re not going totally traditional), but en route to meet with our officiant, I had the groom read through the BCP ceremony, and we decided just to run with that.
