[6] The Details: Decor

March 25th, 2008 @ 1:56 pm by Mrs. Lime

I know, I’ve been a bad, bad blogger.  I didn’t believe people when they said I would be so over wedding stuff once it was all said and done, but it’s funny how quickly and easily I got over the whole planning thing.  It helped that I had quite a few major life transitions I was putting off until after the wedding, and I tackled those projects head on as soon as we returned from our honeymoon.  Anyway, enough procrastinator excuses.  Onto the photos!

Again, all photos are copyright M. Norwood Photography unless otherwise noted. Oh, and warning–this is a long one.

[D.I.Y. Signs]

  • 1/4″ thick masonite + scrap lumber signs cut + assembled for me by a carpenter friend.
  • I printed the text on my inkjet, cut it out, and rubber cemented it on [for easy removal afterward].
  • Simple, metal pails from ikea were filled with river rock as a “stand” for the signs.

[Card Box]
An awesome friend made this for me. I think it was pretty simple as her only tools were a tall-ish cylindrical box I found on clearance at a craft store, some scrap fabric she had, leftover ribbon, and a glue gun. Sorry, I don’t have any further specific instructions.cardbox[Personal Flowers]Bouquets

[Cocktail Hour]
My coordinator figured out these arrangements for our bar-height tables using the candles, holders, and river rock I pretty much threw at her with no direction whatsoever. She did an awesome job!

OMG, love it. Do you mind me asking where you bought the river rocks? I am thjinking about doiing something similiar and am on a tight budget.

hey–as to river rocks…jamali gardens and save on crafts have them. I also got some from a knottie through the message boards.

Love the pictures–did you rent the furniture from Ikea? Or did you puchase it? I’m still trying to figure out which route is better…since the rental company wants to charge a bunch and it doesn’t seem worth it.

thanks for the nice comments, all. i’m glad we’re not the only ones that are enjoying our photos.

slanders, we got the river rock at ikea for 69 cents per small bag, i think. it ended up being even cheaper than buying the 50 lb. bags from builder/landscaper suppliers (i looked at bourget bros. in santa monica and few others i can’t recall right now).

michele, a friend who got married a few months before me and i went on in buying the furniture together. at the end, we were going to craigslist it and split whatever we made back. however, we ended up moving and needed furniture, so we kept it, and i gave my friend back what we thought we’d make back on craigslist. we both ended up paying less than we would have to rent, and i got a casual living room set out of it.

jann, thanks! i’m not too good with the flower and plant varieties. ;)

Mrs. Lime, your wedding is so beautiful! I was thinking about river rocks (we are getting married by a creek) but I couldn’t figure out the execution… I think yours are great and I might steal the idea for my aisle!!

Also, the manzanita - did you do that yourself or was it your florist? If you did it yourself, where did you get the manzanita? Sorry if you’ve answered this question in a previous post… I may have to blog-stalk you for a while :-)

Woonendez says:

Mrs. Lime, can you share where you got the blue table mats under the flowers? Are they handmade? They add such a nice touch!

Mrs. Lime says:

monkey, my florist did the manzanita branches. if you are local to LA, you can also buy then downtown at and near the flower mart. i hear a place called wasabi green has a good selection at affordable prices. it was too much trouble to DIY, and my florist did the whole thing, including pillar rental, for under $100 each. a review is forthcoming.

woonendez, i “made” them by cutting commercial vinyl wallcovering that i bought through trade only sources. martha stewart has done them using nice paper and even “finishing” the edges in ribbon. however, my guests did spill various things on them, so i was glad they were vinyl and not paper. i previously wrote about it here:

Robyn says:

can i ask which ikea bowls those are?

Mrs. Lime says:

hi robyn,
they have sadly been discontinued. i bought the last 22 i could scrounge up between three local ikeas almost a full year ago. the syntes and dinera bowls are similar, but they’re made for eating rather than serving as the bowls i bought were, so they’re not quite as sturdy, it seems.

i lied! or i misinformed, i should say. i just found them again.

Miss Bubblegum says:

Your wedding is, like, ridiculously beautiful.

And so this may sound like a weird question, but.. those table squares that you had.. do you happen to know the dimensions? I’m guessing those are 60″ rounds for the tables, which is what we’re going to have… and I’m going to be making table squares… and I feeeeel like they should be somewhere between 30 and 36 inches, and yours look perfect - any idea how big they are?

Mrs. Lime says:

BG,

Thank you! I wrote about the sizes here:
http://www.weddingbee.com/2007/07/13/tablescaping-again/

Because I wasn’t all that careful about cutting, they ended up in the range of 24″-27″ square. My tables were 60″ rounds, as you suspected. Good eye.

Absolutely beautiful! So unique, I really get a sense of what your personalities are like. I’d like to know if you made the carnation centerpieces yourself - I saw the bowls you used, so I assume so. Mainly, I am interested in the technique, because I had something very similar in mind and have no clue how to execute it. Thanks!

Mrs. Lime says:

Kelly,
I did not make them myself. I lugged all the bowls to my florist who did them for a very reasonable fee (yay carnations!). I sort of took apart my mockup centerpiece, and they just put oasis foam in then stuck in carnations, packed tightly, in graduated heights. the stems were cut at the right lengths to get that dome shape. Hop this helps!
