About Mrs. Shortcake

I’ve already decided that a drop-veil is the type of veil for me - despite, as Mr. Shortcake noted, its tendency to make brides look ‘ghoulish’ and ‘other worldly.’ Actually, I believe the actual observation was “you’ll look like a ghost” - but all I have to say to that is

“WOOOOOOO–OOOOOOOOOOOO”
*rattles chains*

:D

If I wasn’t so deadset on looking like a corpse bride, however, and had a shorter dress, I would most definitely be wearing and rocking a birdcage veil.

Cocktail hats are another neat option, which I think look crazy cool with short dresses. I actually bought one and wore it around the house for a week before I could admit that it looked awkward with my gown, so I can vouch for the fact that this company has a really reasonable return policy:

What a fun website Sarah! There is a little black, feathered number that I might just have to own for next New Years’ Eve.

I love love birdcage veils. What kinds of dresses look best with them? Short? Not to much beading? I’d be interested in people’s thoughts.

If my dress weren’t completely the wrong style to truly rock a birdcage veil, I think I would forgo my generally anti-veil principles to have one.

I’m wearing a mini-veil, which is birdcage-esque. My dress is a corset top with sparkly beading and champagne embroidery. The bottom is a very slim-fitting (almost column) A-line with a single-layer tulle train overlay (also embroidered and sparkly). Not what I would call simple, but the silhouette is nice and fitted- which makes the min-veil work.

I made my own. The french/russian netting comes down over one eyebrow.

I wore a birdcage with my dress. The dress was a 2-piece lace halter, an ivory a-line skirt with pickups and a brown satin sash. My veil was handbeaded with a cluster of coffee, clear and blue crystals with peacock feathers, maribou and cream/white goose biots out of the side. The veil was very short and I wore it for the whole evening — there are some rocking pictures.

I LOVED it. And, I got lots of comments.

I think you can wear them with most dresses, so long as the style of the veil (& feathers & beading) holds up to the detail on your dress.

I think these veils are so much fun! And a nice change from the traditional veil.

Ms. Shortcake: I thought you would like this site. It’s not wedding-related, but has really cute vintage aprons!

I love these birdcage veils. I am doning one with my demetrios couture dress. My dress has a lot of ruching (sweetheart neck) fitted to my hip, and then a-lines. I think these veils work nicely on a more plain dress without a whole lot of big designs. Perhaps something that isn’t too flowery - but that’s just my opinion.
