One Day At A Time

March 26th, 2008 @ 12:56 pm by Mrs. Penguin

My wedding planning style is…how should I put it…lazy.

Lazy in a good way, I think. To date, I would say that planning this June shindig has been the most fun thing I’ve ever planned. I’ve had some minor stress at work recently, (lots of work is a good thing, but still…lots) but wedding planning has pretty much been my escape from it all for the past year. Whenever I get a spare moment, I look up ideas, complete minor tasks, craft a little bit here and there.

The biggest commitment (and sanity saver) that I’ve made in this process is to complete ONE wedding related task a day. Whether it be putting together 10 invitation boxes, calling a vendor to make sure we’re on schedule, or simply e-mailing a bridesmaid to say hello and discuss plans for wardrobe, I make sure to do one thing a day, seven days a week. When you break it down to one task a day, nothing sounds daunting, yet at the same time, everything that needs to get done, gets done.

Despite being uber detail oriented, I like to think that our wedding is shaping up nicely, and all the nitty gritty little things are really becoming a reality. And still, all the hairs on my head have remained firmly in place.

I’d like to come back to this post in late May, I have a feeling I might be laughing at myself for even thinking I could remain calm throughout the entire process. But with a little over 2 months left to go, so far so good.

What is your “sanity saver” in the wedding-planning process?

It sounds like a good plan— breaking the big pie of projects down into manageable bites (mmmmm…. pie….)

And don’t forget to put a beeTV broadcast or two on that TO DO list, b/c we addicts are going thru Pengy withdrawl and need a fix! ;)

YOU are my sanity saver in this process. I would have no friends left if I wasn’t able to email you 500 times a day about different stuff. Thanks Pengiun. I appreciate you!

i actually do the opposite. i’ve still got 6 months, so i’m doing all of the little diy things now all in big sessions over the weekend. it’s more fun bc there’s no pressure, and it’s nice to know that it’s all getting done.

Dang, that’s a good idea. I’m already feeling overwhelmed and I’m nine months away! A nearly full-time design job combined with freelance jobs and my own wedding stuff to design, I’m feeling like I never get anything done. One item a day, seven days a week is a great solution to my problem!

Er, nothing right now! I am a stress ball within a stress ball! I need some anti-anxieties, man.

Wait, wait. The girl who’s QUILLING HER TABLE NAMES calls herself lazy? Give me a few minutes to process that…

Ok, I’m good. My sanity saver is, simply, Weddingbee. Sharing all my hard work and having it validated makes me feel brave/ambitious enough to take on the next thing. Couldn’t do it without the ‘bee.
