About Mrs. Penguin

Why, Thank You!

March 28th, 2008 @ 1:36 pm by Mrs. Penguin

I ran into the Paper Source the other day to grab some Thank You cards for my shower.  PS had some really delicious letterpress cards in store, but at $13 for 10…I thought maybe another time.

Time to bust out the Gocco! So I thought I’d be totally unoriginal and go with the umbrella theme, since it was a shower. Shower…rain…umbrellas…we’ve seen it a million times. Anyway, on to the goods!

I bought 4 sheets of printed kraft wrapping paper and traced out my own envelopes using the nifty Envelope Templates that Paper Source offers (and every crafty gal should own).

Then, using double sided tape, I folded the envelopes.

z13842201

I lined them with “Curry” colored text weight paper, which didn’t match my yellow Gocco ink that well, but we’re getting really anal with our yellows at this point aren’t we?

z13842202

Then, Go-Go-Gocco away. Two passes on two screens using yellow and grey ink.

z13842203

Check out this hot mess. This is what happens when you place your carbon print way too close to the edge of the Gocco. I knew this would probably happen before I flashed, but I thought I’d be ballsy and do it anyway. Since I was trying to SAVE money by making my own cards, I decided that flashing another screen wasn’t worth it, and my poor guests will have to deal with the sub-par under flashed edges.

Ta-da! Finished. Nothing too fancy, but they’ll get the job done!

I actually like that the grey lines on the umbrella don’t go all the way to the top of the umbrella. I think it makes the umbrella more interesting and gives it more shape.

I couldn’t figure out what the “mess” was until I read yiyi’s post! I love the umbrellas like that - it looks like you did it on purpose :)

It is too cute. I am not even DIY-ing my invites, and I am thinking I must have me a Gocco. Too bad I can’t register for one at BB&B.

I like that the lines are totally even as well. It makes the umbrella look more whimsical.

AKPM says:

Very cute. Did you also get the envelope lining kit at Paper Source?

Red says:

You make it looks so simple in this post, but I’m not fooled - they would probably take me days to get it right. Great job!!

Those are so nice! Question: How did you get your registration to line up so well? Do you have a PG5? Did the card fit on the little grey grid pad? I’m having issues getting multiple plates to line up…

Miss Penguin,

Random q for ya: how do you like living in Sac-town? I will be moving up after my wedding and am trying to scope out the better areas. :) Would love to hear your thoughts!

@Lisa: You really need to bust your Gocco virginity! After the wedding we will plan something for sure!

@Abbie in CO: I own the PG-5, the cheapest model. Perhaps knowing how much I use the gocco, I’d probably have gotten the PG-11, which is a little more expensive but is easier to use when you are making multiple layer prints!

@AKPM: Yes, the envelope kit is from Paper Source, it comes with a bunch of different size envelope templates.

@lisa: I just used scotch double sided tape

@MissW.: Its a little hard to explain…but I tried explaining it earlier in this post:

http://www.weddingbee.com/2008/01/16/gocco-q-a/

I hope that helps!

@annie: I just used plain old scissors and a steady hand :) the envelope liners I cut with a paper cutter however, so those were cut straight as a razor, but the envelopes I just cut by hand.

so what’s the cost break down per invite?!??!

ean3 says:

Miss Penguin, I love your Thank Yous! This may seem like a dumb question, but how do you seal the envelopes closed?

31.
Bee Icon
Miss Penguin says:

@ean3: double sided tape as well….or I might make a little seal with my address on it. I havent gotten around to that part yet :)

@nicole: I’ll calculate it out and post it later today!

Jen says:

Adorable cards! Can I ask where you got the black things that your cards are (I assume) drying in? I need something like that, but have no idea where to look!

33.

Miss Penguin says:

@Jen: They’re gocco card drying racks, I bought mine here:

http://northwoodstudios.tripod.com/misc.html

Definitely saves the hassle of taking up your entire floor space with drying cards!
