Happy Feet

There really is nothing like a great shoe:

And, as we all know, the greatest shoes often hurt the most. So, after about 10 minutes of dancing, don’t you just want to kick them off?? But then what, oh what, will you put on your feet? Well, Martha Stewart told me to give them slippers, so, garsh darnit, that’s what I’ll do!

I have to say right now - Mr. BG HATES this idea. He thinks it’s a horrible waste of money and that NO one will put on a pair of these slippers. But after convincing him that the worst thing that could happen is that Planet Aid will get a bunch of pairs of brand new slippers, I was able to proceed.

I started my search online… and quickly decided that I’d need to take this search to the stores. Under the guise of visiting my parents, I took a trip to Ocean State Job Lot, where I got 10 pairs of red ballet slippers ($3/ea.) and 5 pairs of big red fluffy slippers ($5/ea.). I then felt rather incomplete for weeks until FINALLY, today, at Target, I stumbled upon 10 pairs of white slippers on clearance for $5 a piece. And, since Mr. BG is CERTAIN that no one will use these slippers, I really couldn’t justify getting more than 25 pairs. :)

So last night, I tied them all with ribbon, stuck ’em in a basket, gave them a sign, and voila! My slipper baskets:

I love the idea. Our wedding is in Oct and slippers would be a lot nicer then flip flops. Great idea.

My boss did this for his 2004 wedding. His mom croched something like 25 pairs of slippers. I wore out both pairs she gave me!

Here’s another cute one:

I LOVE Job Lot. Half my life comes from there. It’s a prerequisite to being a Rhode Islander I think. Glad to hear that the Jot has made it’s way up as far as NH!

I kind of side with your husband. I think wearing slippers in public is trashy. Maybe flip flops would do the same and not be so “lazy” looking.

I bought 50 pairs of Chinese slippers and put them in the ladies bathroom. With 240 guests (so you figure that’s about 120 ladies or so), there was a mad dash to grab a pair. Everyone wanted one! I got this idea from another wedding that I attended. Almost all the female guests wore slippers on the dance floor as the evening went on.

I just attended a wedding and they passed out awesome white fluffy slippers. I was ready to go home, mostly because my feet hurt so bad, and those things made me party for another two hours! The only thing was, I would have loved to bring them home with me, but they were too disgusting after dancing in them to keep, so they ended up basically disposable. But still, I’m going to have them for my wedding. Can’t wait to go slipper-shopping!

Great idea! I definately plan to do this.. nothing ends a good time faster for a woman, than hurting feet.

Yay! Another Rhode Islander here to sing the praises of Job Lot (or as we sometimes lovingly refer to it, Slob Lot!) Looks comfy!

@Yach: Where did you get the 50 Chinese slippers? I’m having trouble finding them.
