Much Ado About The ‘Do

April 1st, 2008 @ 11:15 am by Mrs. Hummingbird

As I have mentioned before on this blog, I have a bit of a love hate relationship with my hair. Because I have had such a hard time with it in the past, I have generally kept it short and low maintenance. Basically, I shampoo and condition it as part of my daily routine, but other than that no styling or products whatsoever.

Since the wedding is not just any day, I want to jazz things up a bit, but as I do not have the long flowing Barbie bride hair seen in most wedding styles, my options are a little more limited. (My hair can currently be pulled into a short stubby ponytail.)

With this in mind, I’ve been scouring the internet for pictures that caught my follicle fancy and found a few that might work, but because I am not a hair girl, I figure I would put it out to the hive and get some more expert opinions on the matter.

We have:

I really like the first one. The piecey, textured looks seems very you.

The short wavy updo would really soften your wedding day look, and be very elegant and flattering on you. The beachy one isn’t bad as a second choice - minus the extremely loud plumerias.

I like the ones that have a slight wave or curl like the pin curl and textured wave bob. Have you considered a vintage look like a finger wave with a flower or vintage clip?

I like the beach wave, if that’s what the vibe of your wedding is. Personally, I like the Victorian look with a delicate crown of flowers or a comb, sorta like a combination of the 3rd and 6th picture.
btw, isn’t that Samantha Francis in the 3rd pic?

While I agree that the textured, piecey look seems very “you”, it seems too close to what your “everyday hair” is, so if you want something a little more special or different for your wedding, I think you should go for one with a bit of a wave, after a hair trial to make sure it looks fabulous of course :) !

Either the short updo with wavy bangs or a mod bob.

The bottom one is what I’m shooting for my own wedding hair (BTW that’s Ivy Robinson, a planner from “Who’s Wedding” whose own wedding is featured on theknot !)

Ha, that’s the same way I am about my hair. I’m so not girly in that way. I ended up wearing a glorified pony tail for our wedding because I just wanted to keep it real ;)

Anyway… I think the “pin curl wave” would look great on you and with your dress. The “mod bob” could also work with maybe a little wave to it.

Since your dress is lacey and has a romantic feeling, I think a little bit of curliness/waviness would be nice. Does you hair curl or wave easily?

I dig the pin curl wave, but it looks like something that wouldn’t necessarily age well throughout the evening.

I like the short updo with wavy bangs and the bejeweled pixie cut. So much so that I am saving them to my computer to use as inspiration for my own hair. I too am stuck in the short hair boat.
