April Fools!

April 2nd, 2008 @ 10:28 am by Mrs. Tiramisu

I’m so excited that I tricked a few of you with my last post (and thanks for the vote of good-style confidence from those who got it right away!)… I just couldn’t resist a little April Fool’s Day hideous bridesmaid dress trickery. My apologies if you or anyone you know sported that dress circa 1980-1990. I’m sure it was much more fashion-forward at the time?

Truth be told though, choosing the bridesmaids’ dresses was a pretty easy task. Blue can be a tricky color, and I knew the exact shade that I wanted going into the search. I was lucky to find them right away at Ann Taylor. You’ve probably seen them before, but that’s ok, I love them anyways. And- seriously this time- so do all seven of my gorgeous friends and sisters who will be standing up with me in them in July!

Choosing dresses from Ann Taylor was great for a number of reasons. They were fairly inexpensive to start off, and I found a buy-one get-one half off sale, with 15% off on top of that for opening an Ann Taylor credit card to make the deal sweeter for my girls. Secondly, most of them knew what size they’d be at Ann Taylor, and with locations all over (my bridesmaids are spread out along the east coast from Richmond, Virginia to Bethel, Maine), trying them on was easy enough.

As bridezilla as it may be, I did want everyone to have the same shoes. I know it doesn’t really matter, but I just think that with tea length dresses, the shoes are a big part of the overall look. Nobody put up too much of a fight, so I don’t think the girls hate me too much for choosing these:

Matchy matchy bridesmaids may be a trend on its way out, but I chose to go traditional on this one. I have to say I also love the look of a mixed up group. Will your bridesmaids be mirror images of each other?

*By the way, my future sisters-in-law actually are identical twins! I think my wedding day will be the first time they’re dressed alike in about twenty years- hehe I can’t wait :)

my gals will be wearing dresses from aria (http://ariadress.com/DressThumbnails.htm)– same color (except the MOH, my sister who always wants to be different!) but they are each choosing their own style. between the 5 girls there will be 4 different styles.

the girls are wearing aubergine dresses with sand (champagne-ish) sashes, MOH will be the opposite.

Yea for Ann Taylor BM dresses! My girls will be in black Chloe dresses!… bought them last fall, when they were on clearance! As for shoes, the pair I fell in love with was a little pricey for some of the girls… so I sent them a photo as “inspiration”, and I encouraged them to venture out and find a cute pair of black, satin shoes in their price range. I’m still searching for the perfect shoes for my dress… I’m obsessed with shoes, and all my loved ones know it… they will be expecting something fabulous on my feet that day!

my girls all wore the same dress and the same shoes… but they all did their hair differently and wore different jewelry (does that count? hehe).

I love those shoes! I have them in red. I originally purchased them thinking I could use them for my wedding day, but after I wore them around the house I realized that they weren’t QUITE comfy enough for a full day of wear. Of course, by that time, I realized that the stockings I’d put over them to protect the soles hadn’t worked all that well, so I couldn’t return them anyway. Now I have an extra pair of gorgeous red satin heels!

I picked the pink version of that dress and my girls are wearing both the halter and strapless. I LOVE the fabric, and the fact that they are nice quality!

OH the dress is gorgeous! Your bridesmaids are so lucky that you went with a simple beautiful dress from a reputable nationwide store, which means little or NO alterations needed and I’m sure affordable! (sorry, I’m still lamenting over what I have to wear for a bbf’s wedding!) And luckily for them, it can definitely be a wear again dress…;-)

The color is gorgeous too! (and shoes too!)

anyway, thats a cute dress. and yay! that your girls actually like it.

i have twin brothers and my wedding will be the first time they’ve dressed alike in a very long time too. although i am going with a mix for my bms. the guys will more than like all be decked out the same….at least the ushers will…which is the role my brothers will all be playing.

I’m wearing that dress in my best friends labor day wedding, but in green! Love it! We still haven’t decided on what shoes to wear, hopefully they aren’t 3 inches!

Jay says:

My girls were in different dresses and different shoes. They ranged in height from 5′1″ to 5′10″ and one had foot problems, so there was no way I was going to force them into the same shoe just because I liked it.

That said, if you’re going to make your BMs dress identically, you made great picks for them!

L says:

Super cute shoes! After I saw them here, I went and searched for them on the internet. :) If you haven’t checked already, endless.com has them! Only the black is on sale though, but you get FREE return shipping on that site, in case any of the shoes don’t fit!

21.
L says:

Oh! And they’re on sale at the Kenneth Cole site (http://www.kennethcole.com/scripts/shop/thumbnailsrx.asp?cc=RWCLR&rec=0&srchtype=&srcharg=), but out of stock. =[ Maybe you could hound them like Miss Toucan did to Guess. =D

Lisa says:

Great dress Miss T! Super classy color.

Re: your side note… I’m a twin myself and I NEVER dress the same as my sister. If on occasion we both wear something SIMILAR whoever put it on last has to change. FSILs are being good sports, but really it’s a wedding, so why wouldn’t they be. But if my sis and I were them, we’d probably have another dress stashed to change into after the photos and all bridal party duties are done. Yes, we really hate dressing alike that much. :)

Thank God!!! I had been saying that you reminded me alot of myself, and was QUITE disappointed by the first choice. So you got me, and I was really upset for you! (and the bridesmaids!) But I LOVE the new choice! Phew!

my MOH will be wearing that exact same dress. it was one of my favorites of all the dresses i looked at. there’s a whole lot of ugly out there in the world of bridesmaid dresses! my bridesmaids will be wearing the version of that dress that has straps (in the same color). i actually based the color blue i’m using for the wedding around the bridesmaid dress color. its gorgeous!
