University Vows

Mr. Canary and I met at Boston University, but it never occurred to us to get married there. Randomly, I remembered seeing a wedding there when we were at school. Considering that we met at BU and a majority of our wedding party consists of friends from college, it would have been a cute idea to get married on campus.

BU has a beautiful non-denominational chapel, Marsh Chapel, which I sadly never visited when I was attending school and am now regretting upon seeing the beautiful photos on the website. One of my favorite details of the area is the Free at Last sculpture by Sergio Castillo in memory of one of BU’s greatest alumni, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. It depicts fifty doves flying in formation to represent peace in all fifty states. It’d make for a beautiful backdrop for wedding day portraits.

And what would be more fitting than completing the wedding day with a reception at the BU Castle, which is a Tudor revival mansion on the university’s campus used for events. The prices are very reasonable and are posted here. The maximum capacity for a sit-down dinner is 92.

A wedding on our college campus would have been super charming and nostalgic. Just the thought of all the different thematic things we could’ve have incorporated would make my mind burst! Oh well, I will file that one as another addition in my “Alternate Wedding Fantasy” folder.

Are any of you getting married at your alma mater or a college campus?

Yup! We met at Bucknell University (a much lesser known BU) and love the campus and the chapel, so we decided to get married there. It’s a little more complicated, since it involves travel for everyone involved and trying to find vendors in North Central PA while I’m living in Maryland, but I think it’s worth it. ‘Ray Bucknell!!

Yes, we met at UC Berkeley and are getting married on campus. It is a really special place to me and Mr. Minmin.

I am not, but my sister did that and it was very cute. Plus the school mascot showed up outside the chapel after the ceremony, which was cute, and they got a few sweet pictures with him as well.

We are! My fiance and I met at the University of Georgia, and are getting married in a garden on campus in May! I think it will be so much fun for all of our friends (most of which also went to UGA) to come back to Athens for the wedding weekend!

This is hot. Mr Peng and I looked into getting married at our Alma mater but the teachers “lounge” or whatever they call it that you can host your reception at is not so pleasing to the eye. BU has beautiful accomodations!

yes! We’re getting married at Ohio University, where we met. It’s been fun and stressful b/c it’s a destination wedding for us and our guests. But the University has been really helpful — if you are alumni getting married on your campus, my advice is to ask for help from as many people at the University as possible! Ex: Admissions can get you maps, arrange for tours of campus. Printing services can design OOT bags with the University logo. Transportation Dept. can help with any transporting of guests to/from ceremony, etc. Student Life (or similar) can give you guest passes for the rec center.

We’re considering getting married at the Naval Academy chapel in Annapolis, MD (where he graduated from, I went to school in DC). It’s really beautiful if you ever have the chance to visit!

Ooooh Miss Canary! I got married at Marsh Chapel this past August and it was beautiful there! My husband graduated from BU and it never dawned on us to even look there at first. I’m glad we picked Marsh Chapel, because the Charles River is in the back and makes for a wonderful photo op as well. =)

Yes!! We are getting married at Alice Millar Chapel at Northwestern University. It is so beautiful with huge big stained glass windows. It looks like a church but is non-denominational which works for our gentile/jew nuptials!

My alma mater also happens to be Boston University, but I never once went in Marsh Chapel during my four years there either. Oops.

I’ve thought about having our wedding at my alma mater, but there are a couple of venues ahead of it in the search right now. Mainly because you can’t fit as many people as I’d like into the reception space. It’s a definite possibility, though. I remember, as a freshman, seeing a wedding one Sunday morning as my friends and I were staggering out of bed on our way to brunch, and saying “I can’t believe people are up and married already!” How funny it would be if I become that bride!

I love Marsh Chapel! I’m in law school at BU, so the law tower is literally next door to the chapel. It’s also where I was just recently confirmed Catholic. If we hadn’t decided to get married in Newport, I definitely would have considered Marsh.

we’re not getting married at our university (azusa pacific in southern california), but we’re having the reception there! there’s a gorgeous atrium on campus that also happens to be the business building, where we had a lot of classes freshman year when we met. :)

We are getting married at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA. :) We are HS and College sweethearts, but we have a real spiritual connection to St. Aloysius Church, the gorgeous, old, charming steepled church on campus there. :)
