About Mrs. Flamingo

Pretty Boy

April 4th, 2008 @ 10:56 am by Mrs. Flamingo

This weekend the boys are going to try on some suits for the wedding. Though there may be some brides who want to be surprised by what their husband-to-be wears the day of, I’m not that bride. Not that I don’t trust Mr. Flamingo, but he’s a joker and I can just imagine him arriving at the church in a pale blue suit with ruffles. (Ok maybe I’m exaggerating - but you get the point.)

I’ll be going with them for the trial and will bring a camera for the main event. Mr. F in a suit - you rarely see that… and he looks so good in one too. At first I wanted to have them wear a real tux with a bow tie because it’s so perfect for our vintage/movie/glam theme, but Mr. F says there is no way he will wear that. What a bummer.

The perfect example of the possible hotness factor.

So we have no choice but to go for the tie route. Since the girls will be wearing brown/taupe dresses, I thought having the best man in brown could be a very nice choice. For the ring bearer, it would be cute if he could be a mini version of Mr. F.

Am I going overboard with the whole matchy matchy? Are you planning on having your boys match your girls? Any suggestions to convince Mr. F to go the bow tie route?

I’m getting married in October, and my ladies are wearing chocolate brown dresses - and we’re having the boys in brown suits to match.

I don’t really mind the look of black next to brown (especially considering how little the groomsmen will be next to the bridesmaids), but my man definitely wants the boys in brown.

We are having chocolate brown dresses, and the guys are wearing black tuxes with chocolate brown vests and ties. The groom and ringbearer will have ivory vests and ties, though. At first I didn’t like the idea of the black against the brown, but it turned out looking really sharp (and black tuxes are a lot easier to get than brown!).

hah, we’re also having chocolate brown dresses (and i thought brown was *so* last year!), but we’re letting the gm’s pick their own black suits (we’re giving them ties).

So will Mr F. be in a brown suit too!? I don’t think that is too matchy matchy if you have the groomsmen in brown suits. Especially if the browns are a different tone and not the exact same color as the bridesmaid dresses. That would look good I think!

Our bridesmaids are in Tiffany Blue and Light Turq with red sashes. So I really didn’t want Black tuxes or suits. We are currently looking for tan (on the lighter side) suits with ivory shirts and turq ties. But I think we are going to get a different tan color for my FI’s so he will stand out from the groomsmen a bit!

maybe if you remind him that at some point in his life he is going to need to own a tux, and so he’d better get used to the bow tie now?

my girls wore a patterned brown dress and i was determined the GM would be in brown suits. i searched high and low for a rental (they refused to rent) and came up empty — a brown tux i found, but not a brown rental suit to be found. they ended up renting black suits and mr. onion had his lovely custom suit made that was brown-ish. i actually love the way it ended up looking. see it here: http://tinyurl.com/5vdgyu

Thanks everyone for the advice. I personally dont think Mr. Flamingo would look nice in a brown suit. Black is a slimming color and I love him to death, but he needs a little slimming ;) Charcoal or taupish could be a great choice, but is that really an option when you rent?

Also his best man is pale and blond, dont know if brown will look nice. I have no idea what possiblities there are for rentals… so I will see tomorrow. Still gotta convince him to wear a tux with a bow tie. ;)

Ill post pics next week. Thanks again

I am getting married in December and outside. My fiance didn’t want to wear a tux so we are opting for suits as well. However, our colors are brown, navy, and burnt orange so we didnt want black suits and everyone we know is using brown. Sooooo, we are getting midnight blue suits (possibly with pin stripes) with chocolate vests and ties (orange bouts) and the girls are wearing navy dresses with chocolate sashes (with orange in the bouquets) Definitely going matchy matchy.

Jennifer thanks for the thumbs up…. we are renting the suits at Moores (I have an awesome deal 80$ each rental including all the accesoires) So I can’t check at other places.

Also, here in Canada we dont have JIMS formal or Mens Wearhouse. So hopefully they have lots of choice where we are going.

All the guys are wearing tuxes, a la 007/Rat Pack/George Clooney. It was a bit of a tough sell with the fiance but I was able to change his mind by unabashedly playing to his vanities:
1) “bow tie tux is a classic and timeless!”
2) “you’ll look so tall and slim, just like George Clooney!!”

Also, the suit was cut out pretty quickly because my FI does wear one fairly regularly, so it wouldn’t seem as “special” to us.

i just finished doing a David’s Bridal mockup of black tuxes with cognac vest. looks good but then pull in the expresso bm dresses and it looks…..not awful…but not….great?

MWH doesn’t have champagne or latte on the website to try but i am certainly hoping its carried in the store.
