About Mrs. Cherry Pie

My Cowgirl Secret

April 5th, 2008 @ 2:38 pm by Mrs. Cherry Pie

I’m really not all that into Western wear, so I couldn’t quite believe it when I started contemplating getting cowboy boots to wear under my dress. I was afraid that my Montana wedding was making me crazy. But I had collected so many awfully cute photos of outdoor brides with boots under their dresses that I just couldn’t help myself. I had to look.

I fell in love with these brown Ariat Laurel boots from Zappos:

3832-30

But then I saw these ivory “wedding boots” from Oak Tree Farms:
C__Docu
I figured that on the plus side, getting a decent pair of boots wouldn’t cost any more than getting a decent pair of shoes. They’d be comfortable; easy to walk in and easy to dance in. They’d even look good– the dress is long so they wouldn’t show unless I want them to, and most have a slight heel to give good posture for extra-sexiness.Both our ceremony and reception are outdoors and I DON’T want to make the mistake of getting my heels stuck in the dirt. Been there. Done that. But which pair should I get? I was just IN LOVE with the Ariats but the white boots were so much more wedding-y. They had two major points against them, though: I couldn’t match the ivory/white to my dress, which is still on order, and I somehow doubted I would ever wear them again…

So I ordered the Ariats… and Zappos shipped them to me overnight, without me even asking! Shipping, as always, is free both ways and returns can be made for up to one year after purchase. Helloooo customer service.

I’ve never owned cowboy boots before, so I didn’t know what to expect. I guess I thought they’d be stiff and unforgiving, but when I first put them on I thought “OOH, these are comfy”… and I didn’t want to take them off! On the down side, I have very narrow calves and there was a significant amount of space between the boot and my calf on all sides. I think that’s a necessity, because they fit perfectly over jeans.

After I had them for a week or two, I liked them so much I actually started buying clothes just to wear with the boots. I know, I know. I have become addicted to fashion when I should be saving for our wedding.

But you know what? These boots are by far the most comfortable pair of shoes I have ever owned. I just can’t get enough of them. I wear them under jeans and over jeans and I’m planning to wear them with skirts and dresses this summer. I’d wear them every day if they weren’t so conspicuous. I just lovelovelove them.

And best of all, I can’t WAIT to wear them under my wedding dress and see the look on everyone’s faces.

What’s your wedding day secret? Are you contemplating shocking shoes?

I’m so happy you went with the Ariats over the ivory “wedding boots”!

How fun! I like the ones you got better than the ivory ones also.

One of my favorite bloggers, gluten-free girl, wore red cowboy boots to her wedding.

oh, ariat is fabulous!! i rode horses for a long time, and ariat makes the most comfortable show boots ever. i’m not surprised that their cowboy boots are super comfy as well. i definitely would’ve voted for those over the ivory ones.

I love Ariat boots. I also own a pair and was also amazed at how comfortable they are. I wear them every chance I get. I’m sure you’ll get some great wedding day photos with them!!

get the ones you’ll wear after the wedding.

The brown ones would be awfully cute under your dress.

I went the non-traditional way with my shoes as well and wore Converse. This is because 1) my family has a “thing” with Converse and 2) I knew they would be way more comfortable AND fun to wear under my dress. Why pay so much for shoes that you probably will wear only once? I just couldn’t do that. And they would have been a nice surprise except that my groom and my littlest attendants (flower girls and ring bearers) wore them too! We all were a real sight to see! And we turned out some very memorable pictures too. Love your cowgirl boots!

I love the ones that you went with. I didn’t go crazy with the shoes that I’m wearing underneath and I still have to figure out something fun to do. I might wear sneakers when I don’t have my nice shoes on! :) I’m getting my BM flip-flops as part of their gifts, so maybe I’ll make myself a fun pair too.

What a review! I wasn’t even thinking of getting cowgirl boots and now I’m fixing to go order that same pair. I’m glad you found something you love! (PS I agree with your decision, those white boots have virtually no use outside of a wedding)

I love love love love love cowboy boots. It’s the only fashion thing I don’t mind spending $$$ on. (Well that and jeans) Seriously I have like 7 pairs and I’ve already picked out the next pair I’m saving for. $300 on heels - no way - but boots, that’s cheap! The husband doesn’t quite understand my passion.

So of course I was going to wear boots with my dress. My mistake - thinking I had to find ivory ones. I like the traditional western style - and they don’t make many in ivory. I did find a pair of ivory ostrich (I’ve always wanted ostrich boots) that had a great heel on them. Very stylish. They were on sale and non-refundable - but I figured why not!! I don’t have the same small calves as you and these zipped up - or should I say were supposed to zip up. My calves would fit in them. Plus they were a little big so there’s no way I was going to be able to walk down stairs in them. They have like a 3 inch heel! That was $300 down the drain and they are still sitting in my closet. :(

Some how I decided to buy a normal pair of ivory heels to wear. It’s one of my wedding regrets!! I wish I’d stuck to my guns and just gone for a super hot pair of boots that I could have rocked on my wedding day and enjoyed for years to come! I would have felt so much more like me :)

I can’t wait to see your pictures!!

We’re now living in Houston and my FI thinks he wants to wear boots with his tux. I would go along with the idea except for the lack of nice shiny black men’s boots we’ve found for less than $500.

I’ve been dying for cowboy boots ever since I saw Jeff Newsom’s incredible photo:

I’m also wearing cowboy boots for the reception. We’re having a country theme so the guys are also wearing black cowboy boots with their tuxes, and FI will don his hat for the reception.
Your’s are beautiful. I might have to get me a pair!

sooo adorable…love those boots. I am wearing flip-flops under my dress. They look dressy enough to me since they have satin straps…some people are kind of appalled by the fact that I am wearing “flip-flops” rather than traditional dressy shoes…but everyone that knows me says they couldn’t really imagine me wearing anything else :-)

We had custom dance shoes made (we kind of “needed” them, and the wedding was as good an excuse as any, right?), and mine were black and white spectators. There’s a lovely shot of the groom’s mother scowling at my feet during the processional, as the black tips of my shoes are momentarily exposed. Scandal!

The best “shocking shoe” story I ever read in my planning was about a girl whose fiance’s younger brother died not long after their engagement, so she was sure to wear his favorite color: bright screamin’ orange.

Definitely. I have been looking at wedding shoes and they’re just not me! So, I thought, what would I normally wear for a posh party? So now I’m focusing my search on glittery five inch platform heels :)

As a girl from Texas, I have to say I LOVE this idea and wish I could steal it (alas, already married). Kudos for finding comfy boots, though! I’ve never been able to find cowgirl boots that didn’t make me want to scream.

I have shocking electric blue pumps for under my dress. Definitely NOT as comfy as the boots you’ve chosen, which are ridiculously cute btw, but should be fun none the less :)
