Box ‘O Shoes

April 7th, 2008 @ 4:28 pm by Mrs. Sundae

Mama Sundae and I found this box at Hobby Lobby, but the first time we saw it I passed it up. When we went back and it was still there a few months later, on sale, I knew that I had to have it. It’s actually covered with a thick, almost canvas-like fabric and has some great grosgrain ribbon tied around it. Part of the reason I passed it up the first time is because I wasn’t sure what I would do with it. Then I realized that it would be the perfect box to house some black flip-flops and a sign that says “For Your Tired Toes” (or something along those lines).

Now this box that was on sale will lead me to spend some more money on black flip-flops. Don’t you love how that works?

(Side Note: I was actually writing this when I saw Mrs. Onion’s post about her card box, looks like it’s the same one in a different color!)

Are any of you providing flip-flops or other alternative footwear? Anyone know where to find some cheap flip-flops? ;)

HMMM… try Target– their dollar shop usually has flip flops around this time for summer. But I don’t know if they’ll have black ones– they’re usually pretty colorful

I am planning on stocking up on the Old Navy flip flops at the end of the summer when they get even cheaper. You might want to buy them and try and get a price adjustment if they go on sale later.

Haha, my sister just gave met he same EXACT box that Mrs. Onion had up! This box in a brown and pink color. She thought it would be the perfect card box holder, and she’s right! Saves me the trouble of having to make one now! :D

If Old Navy or Target doesn’t work out, try your neighborhood Rite Aid or Bartells… they sometimes have cheap flip flops too!

Michael’s has the boxes in pink/brown and light blue/brown, along with other keepsake boxes in various patterns and sizes! I think they’re on sale now for around 5 bucks…

The first wedding I ever worked had crocheted slippers, and they were a dream.

OMG, I was JUST at Hobby Lobby and I saw that same box! I was trying to figure out what I would do with it. I am going right back and buying one.

Too funny — that is the same box indeed. Mine was $8.06 on sale — I felt so pleased and now it holds all our wedding memories.

Depending on how many, you might be able to buy wholesale. We just bought 200 pairs of slippers - monograpped with our own design and color - for ~$1/each!! Seach “flip flop” and “wholesale” on google - or try ebay!

Good luck

i’ve been meaning to mention it to you, office max (at least by me) has some boxes of various sizes, bulletin boards, etc. in a damask-like fabric similiar to this. no idea about the cost though, sorry!

i’m on board with the old navy idea if you can’t find them wholesale, they’re cheap and comfy!

Maybe Old Navy can give you a discount if you’re buying a bunch?

BTW…I love the box! I’m on a mission to find one for myself now! :)

One wedding truism I learned was “always buy the cute box; you’ll find a use for it later.” And indeed, the four fabric bins in our accent color were used to schlep first wedding stuff and then Christmas stuff up and down the east coast; and the little suitcase in our primary color first displayed programs at the ceremony and now holds our giant stack of photo CDs.

Do you know what it was called? I’ve been trying to find in on the website to no avail.

I usually do Old Navy for flip flops, and they will sometimes give a discount for bulk orders. Depends on who you get on the phone and their mood that day, I think.

I just ordered black flip flops at Old Navy for my wedding as well. They were 2.50 a piece and free shipping at the time. I plan in tying a coordinating ribbon to each pair of shoes and using a basket to be placed in the women’s room.

If you are in Chicago you can also look at Chinatown for some cute cheap slippers/flipflops. I bet old navy and target is the most cost effective though.
