About Mrs. Jelly Beans

Top That!

April 7th, 2008 @ 5:26 pm by Mrs. Jelly Beans

In November one of our dearest and closest friends tied the knot!

Being one of her bridesmaids, I was more than happy to have the honor of bejeweling her monogram cake topper.

The bride provided me with the supplies and the monogram. All I had to do was to add the bling factor. I was really nervous that I would screw this one up. It’s one thing when you are working on your own project, but to work on someone else’s is a totally different ballgame.

So what if it turns out to be the most hideous cake topper in the history of cake toppers? She won’t even notice right? Who am I kidding?

No pressure Mrs Jelly Beans! Deep breaths, tons of patience and steady hands.

After several messy attempts, a wee bit of glue inhalation therapy and sparkle overload, I was done! I bought a tin container from Michael’s to store the letters in. I also placed their initials on the tin for a personalized touch.

She loved it! And that’s all that truly matters. The End! :)

OOh, I like these. So fun!

I have NO idea what we’ll do for a cake topper, if anything at all. Hmm…

Hi Mrs Jelly Beans!

Thanks for your answers to my last questions! I have more questions for you and I hope you can answer them! :)

Who was your florist? Did they have packages available? And if you wouldn’t mind, how much did you pay for them?

I’m having a hard time trying to find a good florist for a reasonable price in Ottawa. I visited a certain florist on Carling and weren’t happy with their knowledge of flowers at all — although they did offer me 10% off for being Chinese! I am planning on going to a popular one on Wellington tomorrow. I believe Stacey has worked with them in the past.

Thanks ladies!

Miss Flamingo- my friend used wooden letters, which she painted silver and I then glued the crystals. You can buy custom wooden ones at http://www.craftcuts.com. I used metal for mine, same company, http://www.weddingcuts.com. The wooden ones are pretty cheap. Mine were about $80 with shipping. Plus the cost of the crystals. Definitely waaay cheaper than ordering them decorated already. Its time consuming but I think worth the savings. :)

Olga- my friend ordered them online from http://www.craftcuts.com. But like I told Miss Flamingo, she ordered them not painted and spray painted it herself to save money.

Hi Jenny,

You’re very welcome! :)

Is the one on Wellington, Flowers Talk?

I used Bel Fiore for our wedding flowers. We worked with Teena. They are located on Elgin Street. We absolutely loved her and her work. She is sooo creative! Mr Jelly Beans loooved flowers and wanted lots of it, lucky me! So we spent more than the average on our flowers budget.

Are you working with Stacey as well?

Good luck with the flower hunt! Let me know if there is anything else I help you with. I’ve been kinda MIA for awhile there, but now I can answer quicker. Have a great day! :)

Hi Mrs Jelly Beans!

Thanks for your answers! Yes I am planning on going to Flowers Talk — have you met with them? I believe that they are supposed to be more on the pricey side but I know Stacey has worked with her.

Nope I did not hire Stacey, I actually met her when the company I worked for created her website (I was in charge of the project).

Could you tell me how much you spent for things like bridal bouquet/boutonnieres? I originally set a budget of $1500 for flowers but I’ve already spent $500 on lanterns so I’d like to butcher the $1500 … not sure if that’s realistic though.

Thanks in advance!!

Jenny

Hi Jenny,

No I didnt meet with Flowers Talk but I have heard about them. I didnt really interview many florists cuz I fell in love with Bel Fiore. I am not sure how much we spent on the bouquets, etc. because we had a budget and she kinda told us what we could or couldnt include. She did however give me an estimated breakdown. I just have to find it. If you dont hear from me by this weekend can you message me to remind me.

Depending on what you are trying to achieve I have seen weddings that use minimal flowers or weddings that are very creative in maximizing their flower usage. Have a great week! :)
