Typewriter Escort Tags

I wish I could say I came up with something wildly original for our escort cards. I didn’t. I copied an idea straight outta Martha (the original photo can be seen on this Snippet and Ink inspiration board):

The keys are a custom order put together by Elizabeth of Keys and Memories. She hacked apart–er, recycled–about ten typewriters, cut and cleaned the number keys, and put them in a sort of lace setting:

She sent them in individual bags, correctly assessing I’d be overcome by the task of categorizing them myself:

I simply glued each key to its name (a hand-typed strip of blush pink paper) and set them, in all their imperfectly-sized glory, on a silver tray. Since typewriters didn’t have 1s, we’re using numbers 2-9 for guest tables, and making our sweetheart table the unofficial #1.

Speaking of which - anyone else having a sweetheart table? Did you name/number it? How did you decorate it?

Oh I love these! Probably one of my favorite Martha details of all time.

They turned out great! Much better than the miniature typewriter.

We only had one attendant each, so we put our round table of four in the middle and simply saved our places with seating cards. It was decorated pretty much like everyone else’s, but I don’t remeber spending a lot of time in my seat. :)

We’re also doing the sweetheart table. All our tables are names after movies instead of numbers. For our table, I went with one of my all-time favorite (and sappily appropriate) movies, The Princess Bride. :)

Really? No #1s?

I wonder if people will keep the keys or leave them at the wedding. If they leave them, I think they’d make great magnets.

Love it LB! That is so cute!

Not naming/numbering the sweetheart table. It is a small table with 2 chairs, in the center of things… if someone’s stupid enough to sit in it by mistake I will have no problem asking them to move! I’m having 2 different centerpieces for the guest tables, and for the sweetheart table I’d do something completely different (something smaller and much simpler, maybe nice candle holder I can reuse…). I will also tie a ribbon around the skirt/drape of the table linen for the sweetheart table only. Maybe also decorate the chairs.

We’re using Atlanta landmarks for our tables, so the sweetheart table will most likely be named “Peachtree St” if we name it at all. No idea how it’s going to be decorated.

I love Angel’s idea of turning the leftover keys into magnets.

We had a last-minute stuffle requiring a sweetheart table, and we didn’t bother numbering it, because yeah, who’s going to think it’s their table? I married a mathematician, though, so if challenged we could’ve said it was table aleph or e or something.

Who cares if it’s an unoriginal idea, they still look great!

We met at the KY Derby, so we are going to have a few “Derby” touches, such as mint juleps at cocktail hour and tables named after the horses that raced the year we met. I thought we might do something along those lines for our sweetheart table. As far as decorations, I had sashes embroidered with “Mr.” and “Mrs. (last name)” on them to tie to our chairs. I’m going to use my bouquet as part of the decor, as well as some candles, but I am looking for something more as well. That is likely to be one of the most photographed tables, so I would like to do something to make it stand out…Hmmm…

My FH is a HUGE NY Yankees fan. I’m talking he wanted to wear pinstripes for the wedding. Like, baseball pinstripes, not ganster pinstripes. Yeah, he was vetoed. So i was thinking about how to incorporate SOMETHING baseball into the wedding, because really, its a huge part of who he is (he plays semi-pro baseball as well as his love for the yankees). SO i thought, HEY! Tables! So i think we are going with different baseball positions. Obviously the sweetheart table will be “Home Plate”, we’ll have First Base, Second Base, Third Base, Shortstop, right field, center field, left field, Home Team Dugout (my family, we’re getting married in my home town), Away Team Dugout (his family is ALL coming in from out of town), Owner’s Box (maybe our parents), and i have to come up with a few more (we’re looking at about 13 tables) I think it will be cute and kinda kitchy and definitely him. I just hope people don’t associate the “bases” with yanno, “THE BASES” winknudge.

We had a sweetheart table (sort of) that we did label #1 - We had a sweetheart/headtable combo so we numbered it so that the wedding party (and guest) could have an escort card. Our venue had a small cluster of five booths along one wall of the dinning room, the booths were on a raised platform so it was a great way for all of our guests to see us. We took the center ’sweetheart’ booth, and we grouped our best gals and guys and their guests in the other four booths.

Our main centerpieces at the guest tables were white pumpkins with cored holes and flicker led ‘candles’ set on a wreath of sticks with flowers. For the sweatheart booth we used a smaller wooden pumpkin on a wreath of flowers. On the wedding party booths we used different lit wooden pumpkins as their centerpiece with the bridesmaids bouquets in vases.

what happens to the typewriters once their buttons are removed?

out of forgetfulness, we didn’t # our sweetheart table and started the guest tables at #1. but my computer science geek husband realized it would make total sense and be perfectly convenient to make our table number 0. this might have been the wedding detail he was most excited about.
