Lip Smacking Good

April 9th, 2008 @ 3:35 pm by Mrs. Lovebird

As a destination bride, one of the things I have put a lot of thought into are my out-of-town bags since everyone is going to be from OOT.

One of the great things I’ve come across are personalized lip balms from Lip Balm Express!

How cool are these? They even have designs specifically geared towards weddings.

Something I thought was peculiar was that they have a flavor of the month - if you are looking for a specific flavor, you might just have to wait for it to come around, so plan ahead! (Although mint is always available). I wonder if they make any exceptions….

I’ve heard they have SPF in them from past brides, but I wasn’t able to find that specifically on the site. I haven’t made my order yet since I’m still deciding on the flavor and if I should get personalized lip balms or non-personalized ones at half the cost.

Do you think people will even notice or care that they are personalized?

I think it would be the perfect touch to have them personalized.

I think wedding-minded people will notice. Everyone else will probably head for any edibles in the bag. What’s the cost if you don’t personalize them?

Diana says:

Personalizing it is a nice touch, but it depends on the extra cost to do so. You can always personalize it yourself by either putting it in a little organza bag with a tag, or making your own stickers.
For me, it would really depend on the costs, but I think it would definitely be a cute suprise for the guests.

I think they WILL notice! I have a lip balm from Frontier Airlines that I strangely got excited about when I got it at some kind of event. Ironically, I had to throw it away going through airport security.

I love personalized lip balms! I’m a chapstick freak, so I love to have them everywhere.

I say do it :)

Personally, I’m a chapstick FANATIC, so I would not only notice but I would covet it. :)

I think personallizing them would be a great touch!!

We are totally hijacking this idea! Our wedding is in AZ, and with as dry as it is there, this is perfect (and 3/4 of the guests are from out of state)!

Hmmm…Now, if only I could find travel-size Tylenol or Advil in bulk…

I would LOVE to get chapstick in a welcome bag. However, I wouldn’t care in the least if it were personalized. I think, as brides, it’s easy to go overboard in this area. But a few, carefully chosen personlized items are much nicer than a bunch of random personalized stuff.

Where would you get the nonpersonalized ones from? I looked around at that site and couldn’t find an option - are you talking about somewhere else?

I have been thinking about putting these in my OOT bags, too, but would love it if they were EVEN cheaper (and hence, nonpersonalized)… you could always design your own label to go on them after the fact…

Please let me know where you’ve found them at half the price! Thanks!

make sure the lip balm isn’t made in china.

I am kind of a chapstick snob, so I would like it as long as it isn’t crappy. Can you order one to try?

Myisha says:

I honestly believe that people really don’t care about the personalizations that most brides put on stuff for weddings. I also believe that people will definitely toss the invites that we all spend hundreds if not thousand on. Most people genuinely just want to celebrate with the couple and wish them well. What would I really do with a bag that has any one else name monogrammed on it other mine after the wedding?

But other than that I think cherry punch sounds divine.

Christie - try Costco, if not, try Lab Safety Supply. They sell big dispensers of single dose packets, for Tylenol, Motrin, Alka-Seltzer - we order them for work.

Miss Penguin, your security guy was a jerk! I have lip balm all the time; its not a liquid or a gel, and the 3 oz/1 quart ziploc rules don’t apply to it.

And I would be all over the lip balm. While I’m also kind of a lip balm snob, its hard to go wrong with a tube of mint.

I’m doing the chapsticks too, i just ordered mine from ebay, I wish I saw your post before I ordered them, theyre too cute! Im also looking for mini bottles of sunscreen for one dollar or less, if anyone knows where I can find some…?

This idea is adorable!! But I’m with mtyf… it would be cool to make your own nifty labels. Save some dough and what’s more, you could use your wedding monogram/logo to match all your other things. Super cute.

I would totally notice, fo sho. But I agree with those who say DIY ‘em. You could come up with something way cuter than their boilerplate templates. Mmm, watermelon.

I think people will notice and think you are seriously cute! But, if you decide not to include them, they’ll never know, so I guess it’s a budget question.

Christie: This one went around on our local Knot board for individual pain reliever packs. They price out to about 30 cents each: http://www.first-aid-product.com/industrial/name-brand-medications.htm

We got those for a homeless outreach I work with. The people who got them were charmed (and we’re talking some tough people :)). Anyway, they’re not terribly fancy, but the chapstick is good and I think it’s really cool — we got it in december so our choices were mint or peppermint :).

@mtyf: I’m pretty sure they don’t offer non-personalized ones from the site. I was referring to ebay.

Christie - Try http://www.minimus.biz or http://www.alltravelsizes.com . They have very reasonable prices. I got the most fabulous welcome kits for out of town guests from http://www.chicasandbrides.com
They come personalized and even include stationery to write a note to guests. The boxes are light (but sturdy) and unassembled. PERFECT FOR DESTINATION WEDDINGS!

This is a great idea!! I am thinking about using them in my out of town gift bags for the hotel rooms and leaving a small basket of them in the women’s room!
