Big Day Beauty

April 10th, 2008 @ 4:05 pm by Ms. Dahlia

I scheduled my hair and makeup trial for Saturday, just before my shower. (If you are doing hair and makeup trials, I’d highly recommend scheduling them for some sort of occasion, so there is a reason for getting beautified.)

I headed to Studio Palmieri, located in the Warehouse District in Cleveland. The studio was chosen strictly based upon location- it is only 3 blocks from the hotel where I will staying the night before the wedding. When I was speaking with one of the receptionists on the phone, she decided to set me up with the amazing Dena to do both my hair and makeup.

For the hair, I just wanted a simple french twist. Dena graciously offered to take pictures of every angle of my hair, so that if I want something changed for the wedding, I’ll be able to tell her exactly what I want done differently.

Front, without makeup.

As far as makeup goes, I said that I really wanted my eyes to pop. I brought along my own mascara, as well as my own lip gloss so that she could see the sort of color that I typically wear.

Pretty makeup! That looks nothing like my prom makeup, thank goodness!

With my best friend.

Self portrait 12+ hours later, when I’m thoroughly exhausted. (With not great lighting. In my childhood bedroom. Yes, the walls really are purple.)

Looking at the pictures now, the couple of things that come to me is that I’d like the top of the french twist to be not quite as open, so that the view from the left side looks a little bit neater. I’d also like the hair on the right to be tucked in a little bit better, so it doesn’t come out by the end of the evening.

Do you see anything that should be changed with my hair and makeup?

I think you look beautiful! I see what you’re saying about the left side view…so its great that you had a trial, to catch stuff like that!

I think it looks great! I got new mascara and now swear by too faced! It has the tubes as well and volumizes (yum!). The only think I would change about the make up is that it looks lighter around your eyes than the rest of your face but that could totally be the cheap camera flash and would even out with very-expensive-professional-photog flash.

I agree with your suggestion to plan something fun to do after your trials!!

I planned my bridal portraits for the day of my hair/makeup trial. (I also got a bouquet mock-up that day) I guess I never even considered the fact that I might not like it :)

I think it looks great!

Love the makeup - your eyes pop beautifully. The hair a little severe - what if she curled it before putting it up, to give it a bit of body on top of your head, then the sophisticated french twist?

I love the shade of lipgloss you’re wearing. What color is it?

I love the makeup! You look beautiful! I think your hair could use a little more umph on top, but otherwise it looks very sophisticated and pretty :)

You look so elegant and glamorous w/o being over done. I think the make up is beautiful. If there will be dancing at the wedding (or wind at any point) maybe ask the hairdresser to make it a little more stable. (A few flyaways - no problem. Everything falling down and scrounging for bobby pins - no fun.) Its a fine line between “dance proof” and “helmet head”. Tread softly! =)

btw - love the idea of the trial before a to-do! hadn’t occurred to me!

definitely a classic look! you nailed it on the head.

love the lip color on you…..and echo a few others that the top needs a little something….a bit of volume would soften it a bit.

I love the makeup! It’s really natural but still stands out.

My childhood room is painted purple too, from the looks of it, it looks almost identical in color. I still can’t believe my parents haven’t painted it over to a neutral color.

Make up looks good and hair might need more poof on top, but still looks good if you’re not into the extra poof.
