Well, I certainly didn’t intend to keep you all waiting this long to see my new dress, but I hope you at least enjoyed the journey to get to this part - THE ACTUAL DRESS. And since you’ve been so patient through Part I, Part II, and Part III, I shall bombard you with pictures of my new wedding dress (whether you like it or not
).
Which means that this is officially a NO MR. TOUCAN ZONE.
The funny thing is, I actually was convinced that it was going to look horrible on me. Sister Toucan had gone with me to my first appointment at VOWS, and my only instructions to her were to pick dresses from the sheath/mermaid/trumpet section. When we got to the dressing room, and I saw the dress, I thought, “ick, ruching - that won’t work for me.” After Sister Toucan helped me in it, she said, “oh, I actually like it.” I didn’t really believe her because we usually have different tastes in style.
I walked out of the dressing room, unconvinced and looking like this:
This is a very unattractive picture of
yours truly, but for story’s sake, I’ll post it.
I wasn’t impressed. The dress was clearly too big, and I had to hold it up to keep it from falling. But then, my dress consultant, April, pulled the dress back so I could see how it would look fitted:
The dress is riding a little low in this picture,
but it was the best full length picture.
Another picture of the bodice pulled in a little tighter
Hmm… it looks A LOT better, but I wasn’t really feeling the severe sweetheart neckline. April suggested that the seamstress could take down some of the chest area so that it would be in better proportion to my body:
After I got a better idea of what the dress would look like fitted to me, I really started digging the dress:
Here’s a better idea of the dress’s boob reduction
As the “real” fitted version of the dress started to take shape in my mind, I wanted to see all the other angles of the dress. The side view:
And then, what really sold me - the back of the dress:
While not as dramatic as my first dress, I love love LOVE the train on this dress. I love the gathering at the top of the train, and how it just seems to delicately flow. And as a small random side note, I was pretty convinced that I didn’t want to wear a veil, until this picture convinced me otherwise:
I thought this simple cathedral veil framed the dress so well, I thought I’d be crazy not to wear one!
Anyway, back to the dress.
After I had decided that this dress was THE dress, I started talking price. Since I already knew that the dress would need quite a bit of work in alterations (although surprisingly, the quote wasn’t much more than some of the other dresses that almost fit perfectly), I was hoping that it wouldn’t cost a fortune. As luck would have it, it was the cheapest dress (by a lot) I tried on! Despite being one of the “Mega Markdown” dresses already, I decided to ask if they could give me a better price. And what do you know? It never hurts to ask.
VOWS has already sent off my dress for cleaning (since they sell mostly all samples, they include the cleaning the dress in cost of the dress), and I have my first fitting scheduled for next week!
So there you have it. The story of how Miss Toucan officially became a two-dress bride. I hope all the waiting and the suspense was worth it! What do you think of the new dress? Do you likey?
