About Miss Peacock

Oh Boy, It’s Really Happening!

April 10th, 2008 @ 6:06 pm by Miss Peacock

Our Save the Dates are in the mail! It’s really official. Mr. Peacock and I are getting married. This proves it:

The flash is broken on our camera so these pictures aren’t the best :( The color of the envelopes is closer to the color in the first picture than the latter. We worked so hard on the design of those silly cards, I am so darn proud of them.

The only downside is that we left our last name off of them. Initially, these were only going to some very close friends and family rather than to the entire guest list and we liked the design better without the last names. Then our parents weighed in on this decision and the list grew and grew. Most of our list won’t notice, but we are worried about a few great aunts and uncles. They may know me as one of “Dianne’s kids” rather than by my actual first name. These people are also unlikely to do further investigating on our website to find out exactly who is sending them mail. However, since they were already printed and about to be stuffed, I pretended like it didn’t bother me.

That’s me, Miss Peacock, spreading confusion through the Chicago suburbs.

Anyone else have an “oops!” moment with their printed stuff?

Oh my gosh these are beautiful. Kind of a like a folk tattoo with a vintage vibe. I can’t wait to see the rest of your wedding!

I had an oops moment! I misspelled my future husband’s middle name on the invite! He didn’t notice for a few weeks, and he had proofread them for me so I didn’t take all the blame. And, he was the one who used the abbreviated version of his middle name on his driver’s license because he didn’t know how to spell it at 16.

Heehee, we almost had an “oops!” moment–when we got our first set of proofs back from the stationer’s, the FI took one look at the invite and exclaimed :”No! I don’t want my confirmation name there!! We have to change it!” It’s so random what these boys get hung up on, isn’t it? ;-) Needless to say, he felt really bad when we made the change and my mom insisted on ordering another proof…but they came a few days ago and look awesome.

I had two, yes two, on my save the date. 1. It said invitations not invitation. I *thought* I looked at the proof. opps. 2. The embosser company added CA after I spelled out California. So the back return address was Los Angeles, California, CA. I was so annoyed, but I was in a rush and I had to use it. I learned my lesson and made everyone close to me proof-read my invitations.

I love yours, they are beautiful!

My FI actually didn’t know how to spell his mother’s name! Thank heavens we got that worked out in guest-list-space, before any printing was done.

JangerToBe says:

My future in-laws were upset that our invites said “together with their families” instead of their names. In hindsight, we should have checked with them first to see their preferred lay-out, but such is life.

12.
melodicsighs says:

will you have a return address anywhere that can include last names?
obviously it won’t be in the corner where the beautiful n+j is, but maybe you can add it to the back flap?

Do you mind sharing what kind of label or “thing” you did for return addresses??

i forgot to put what city we are getting married in! big mistake but since we didnt have to mail out too many and they are postcards we just wrote a note on each one stating where we are getting hitched.

i have been looking longingly at your save the dates for about fifteen minutes now. fifteen. full. minutes. where? how? I am in love. they are stunning.

23.
furelysse says:

Beautiful! Just a quick question, are some of your embossed monogram crooked intentionally?

24.
Kmac says:

the save the dates are gorgeous! was the design DIY or did you get it from an outside source?

25.
Michelle says:

I put the wrong street number of our venue on the wedding invitations. Whoops. Luckily, there are only 4 businesses on the street and it is the only hotel. I just laughed it off.

@melodicsighs: My parent’s return address was on the back flap, which helps me, but not Mr. Peacock!

@evelyn: If you mean the monogram, it was stamps from Paper Source (the N and J) and Michael’s (the &). It was really hard to find an “&”

@Melissa: You just made my day! We made them :)

@bride of rochester: What a sweet compliment! Thank you :)

@furelysse: On a few, I put the J below the N. If that’s not what you are referring to, then let’s just call it handmade charm!

@Kmac: We bought the tree and the banner (separately) from istockphoto. We did the rest ourselves.

What did you use to print these? A printer or Gocco? Very pretty!

We did the EXACT same thing leaving our last names off. I didn’t notice until they were almost out the door. Oh well- if they can’t figure it out then maybe we don’t want them at our weddings! :) Absolutely beautiful btw!

I love them. The rounded edges are a perfect touch. They look like your name kind of. That sounds weird when I say it but it’s really true.

I recently had an OPPS moment: We handwrote all of our save the date cards, since we’re only having 15 people at the wedding. After two days of painstankingly writing them out, each with a personal note, the FI and I put them in the mail. A week later I get a call from my grandmother to tell me I spelled my sweetie’s name wrong. OPPS…left out an “a” in the late night rush to finish them on time!

39.
LaborDayLady says:

So beautiful!!! Great job! We left our last names off too… if they don’t know who we are then maybe they won’t save the date and maybe they won’t come, and maybe that will cut down on costs! Win, Win, Win! ;)

Miss Peacock says:

@MayGrad &Mrs. Radish: My original plan was to Gocco them, but then my head started spinning with all the layers and I was worried about all the little details coming out cleanly. Mr. Peacock printed them on the very nice color printer at his office (with permission, of course ;)

@pgar: I heat emboss envelopes pretty frequently and I have never had a problem. It melts onto the paper like plastic, so I think it is pretty well sealed.

@ladyjane: I didn’t spend very much on these! Less than $100. The paper was the most expensive part and I could have price-shopped that a little better than just heading to Paper Source.

45.
Meagan says:

Miss Peacock,

I love your save the date! Could you tell me what the usernames (on istockphoto) that the tree and banner came from? I have been looking at graphic designers to make my stuff for me so then I could have it printed locally for cheap but designers cost a ton, even whe using a premade design.

Is there anyway I could buy the template from you? Just let me know!

46.
Aninhas says:

I love your STD cards! I only wish my FI would love the idea half as much. He refuses to take that route. My concern is that his family all travels every year in the summer, which falls around the same time as our wedding next year, and I wanted to give them a headsup on the date so they could stick around. Plus, I really wanted to take on my own diy project!
