Product Rave… Feel My Skin!

April 10th, 2008 @ 1:33 pm by Mrs. Peony

I am very thankful to have been blessed with fairly good skin. Aside from the year or so at the start of puberty when my forehead didn’t know how to deal with the influx of hormones and newfound oil glands, I rarely have break-outs.

However, with the big day approaching and my stress level rising inversely in proportion to the number of days left as a single woman, my skin started to revert back to its puberty days.

And it wasn’t pretty.

In my desperate hour, I stumbled into Saks and made a beeline for the myriad of cosmetics counters. I needed coverage, and I needed it fast.

My furiously wandering gaze stopped when I saw a display for La Mer Skincolor. Color? I thought La Mer was a skincare company, whose Crème de la Mer supposedly works miracles and has a fanbase that consists of Hollywood’s elite as well as middle-class housewives who idolize the stuff and use it only for the rarest, most special occasions.

La Mer Skincolor

The salesperson behind the counter noticed my lingering curiosity and asked me if I wanted to try a product. I explained my predicament (”I’m getting married in a few weeks and look at THIS!”) and asked if the foundations are any good at covering masses of zits.

She laughed, sat me down, and proceeded to wipe away the junk that was already on my face. She brought out both The Treatment Crème Foundation and The Treatment Fluid Foundation and applied both to my skin. She went on to say that she would recommend the Fluid version for someone of my age for its lighter coverage; however, if it’s coverage I want, the Crème delivers medium to heavy, based on application.

I immediately opted for the Crème for the coverage it would provide in masking my pimples.

She then brought out The Powder and explained that this would set the foundation. After fluffing it over my face, she held up a mirror….and I was floored. My face was glowing.

I decided to purchase both the Crème Foundation and the Powder that day. Two weeks passed, and I’m still amazed. My pimples have cleared, and if possible, this foundation actually seems to have improved my skin.

So much so, that I want to walk up to strangers and say, “Feel my skin! Feel my skin! Isn’t it so soft?”

La Mer describes the Crème Foundation as a “souffle” and its consistency is supposed to be similar to that of Crème de la Mer. It’s pretty expensive at $85 for 1 oz, but I could already tell that it’ll last a long time…I only use a pea-sized amount to apply on my problem spots and blend the rest. It comes with a little spatula to avoid introducing germs and contamination from using your fingers.

As for the Powder, it is so finely milled that I always have to hold my breath when fluffing it onto my face. It really does “set” the foundation and gives your face a glowing radiance I haven’t seen with other foundation/powder sets.

Don’t believe me? Read the ecstatic reviews I found on Blogdorf Goodman.

Needless to say, I’m very happy with this foundation/powder duo and I’m so relieved that I have one less thing to worry about on my wedding day. happy04

You know everyone raves about the LaMer face lotion and I hated it. I have dry skin but it was too oily, made me breakout, and felt more like an “old lady” creme. I ended up giving it to my mom. My dermatologist said she hears that a lot from people about the breakouts with the LeMer creme cause it’s too rich for most.

Despite this experience, haha, I’m still interested in the makeup cause I’m on the lookout for the best foundation.

I agree we need before/after to judge!

Thanks for the post Miss. Peony! I LOVE Creme de la Mer and have been using it for couple of years now. I can’t wait to try their skin color line! Does anyone know how it compares to Bare Minerals?

How was the lasting power? did it stay on well for the whole day and night for you? At what point did it start to fade or seep in the pores/lines? Sorry I just have the worst oily skin and I can’t seem to find the right foundation too!

so miss peony, do you have dry-normal skin or normal-oily? i have heard that la mer products do not work so well on oily skin, also.

Hi everyone,

Unfortunately I don’t have any “before” photos….but Mr Peony can attest to the fact that my pimples have cleared up, and he’s always touching my cheeks and exclaiming how extra soft they are!

I have combination skin where (especially in the colder months) my cheeks can get flaky, but my nose and forehead can turn into oil wells. The foundation hasn’t solved the problem 100%, but it’s still the best condition my skin’s been my entire life.

As for lasting power, I would say that the foundation is pretty good (lasts throughout the day) but the powder unfortunately lasts only a few hours….I wish they had a portable version of the powder!

I love Creme de la Mer and have been using it for years! I’m totally intrigued by their new color line, though I really love my Bare Minerals . . . . Please post pictures of your look! If you are having some breakouts though, may I recommend a product that’s at the opposite end of the price scale that works wonders? It’s the Queen Helene Mint Julep masque. You can get it at any drugstore for $3.50. It smells and looks like mint toothpaste — blech. But it’s ability to clean out white and black heads is phenomenal. Just look it up on makeupalley.com for the hundreds of glowing reviews.

maybe, you could do a before pic of you in the am before you put it on, and then an after? You’re such a purty little bee, that I’m sure you’re before wouldn’t be embarrasing.

My boss swears by La Mer. We actually work quite closely with them on certain promotions. My boss whose in her late thirties does not like the heavy face cream either. She doesn’t think I (whose in my mid-20s) need to use any La Mer other than the eye cream until I’m in my mid-30s. So I gave my free samples to my mom. My boss also has oily skin and even breaks out if she has peanuts or chocolate. Therefore, even if you have oily skin, it works. My boss uses it religiously and doesn’t even have crow’s feet. Everyone thinks she’s still in her 20s and someone even thought we’re sisters! Hope that helps. Feel free to message me and I can ask the La Mer rep myself.
