“Hi! You’ve Reached The Bings!”

April 11th, 2008 @ 11:38 am by Mrs. Shortcake

It doesn’t take one of those annoying applications on Facebook to tell me which Friends character I am.

*looks up from polishing her vacuum*

All I need to do is to look into my drawers and see my kitchen towels organized by occasion and my utensils sorted according to meal type and frequency of use… or hear the resounding choruses of “NO!”s when I ask if anybody wants to play Monopoly with me.

(so I take pictures when I’m winning by a landslide - I’m not competitive, I just like to …ummm…yeah I have no excuse. :) )

Mrs. Bing in da haus!

So, with all our similarities (obsessive cleanliness, bossiness, competitiveness, mean cooking skills), it comes as no huge surprise that watching the episodes of Friends that deal with Monica’s wedding planning is often like watching a video of myself - to the point where I spend much of the time with my hands clasped over my mouth in barely suppressed horror.

And humor:

The Dress Hunting Episode

The Wearing-Wedding-Dresses-Pre-Engagement Episode

Monica and Chandler’s Wedding

Monica at Phoebe’s Rehearsal Dinner:

Monica’s Rehearsal Dinner:

What about you? Are you, or have you turned into “Monica” during your wedding planning?

“Now if only I had a smaller vacuum to clean this one!” Couldn’t resist, I am a HUGE addict! I am pretty obsessive as well (so I hear, to me I seem normal :P) but just think of the payoff that your hard work and careful planning will bring you!

I love all the Monica wedding episodes!

I don’t think I’m quite there yet, but I do have a year to go.

If it makes you feel any better, I thought she looked stunning when they got married … that was my one and only pre-engagement “that’s how I want my wedding to be” moment.

So turning into Monica can’t be such a bad thing… :)

… although I admit I might be a bit like Monica on the day itself … “don’t touch me!” :)

I cry every time I watch the engagement too, and I want Friends as I fall asleep every single night, so I can’t even imagine how many times I’ve seen it.

I was actually surprised Monica didn’t flip out when Joey forgot half of the stuff to say at the ceremony, haha.

“Honey, you know I have no sense of humor when it comes to the wedding.”

Joey: What time does the show start?
Monica: The SHOW?

Joey: Don’t those things always start late?
Monica: Have you ever been to one of MY weddings?

I’m slowly recognizing the Monica in me. :)

::waves:: Hello! Fellow Monopoly fan here! The FI refuses to play with me because “it’s boring” but really, it’s because I buy up all the railroads and clean him out. ;-)

Confession: I totally bought Season 7 of Friends a few weeks ago to get me in the mood to plan. It’s definitely worked, although the episode where Chandler disappears before the ceremony is one that the FI identifies a little too much with…so maybe we don’t need to watch that one as often. :-) While I didn’t yell “I’M ENGAGED!” from the rooftops, I totally get a little grumpy at the thought of my thunder being stolen. I’m not a super die-hard Monica, but my Monica-like tendencies have come out a little more often than usual. Regardless, it’s all helped us laugh it off, and the tender scenes serve as a lovely reminder of what we’re going through all this for.

Do you also happen to be freakishly strong? :-)

Yup. At my shower recently my FSIL put together a trivia game..it even looked like the one Ross made, complete with a lightening round! To top it off, one of the questions was: “What does Fi do?” the correct answer? “transponster”. No one really knows what he does!

Ironically, I was NOTHING like Monica for my wedding, but am absolutely every other day. In fact, I won’t watch Friends with DH anymore because he just constantly gives me the “my god you are exactly like her” look.
