Permanent… Yup It’s Forever

April 11th, 2008 @ 12:41 pm by Mrs. Flamingo

Many fellow bees have blogged about having stamp issues with their invitations. Some purchased stamps at one point, but because of an increase in rates, they purchased those annoying 0.01$ stamps. Luckily for us Canadians we no longer need to deal with $0.01 stamps because they’ve introduced permanent stamps, similar to the forever stamp issued last year in the US.

I was really excited about this news, especially being someone who rarely uses stamps. I went to the post office and purchased 2 rolls of 100 adhesive permanent stamps. The only disadvantage of these stamps I would say is the variety, but a pretty flower like the one shown is nice and wedding invitation worthy.

So my invitations are off… to infinity and beyond. Honestly, I’m anxious to get the RSVPs back. For once you get something in the mail that isn’t a bill. I just hope my family will know what to do with the RSVP postcards. It seems simple, but some of my guests might think that I forgot to include envelopes. (Don’t laugh, I’m pretty sure this will happen - :D ).

My what lovely stamps you Canadians have - all the better for bridal mailings!

Sadly, I’m waiting things out with the USPS to see if we’ll have attractive stamps in enough time after the postal increase because although the Forever stamps are a great idea, the Liberty Bell simply doesn’t scream wedding to me.

I know, it’s a stamp and it’s ridiculous, but it’s a silly little detail I actually care about…

lunapark, I couldn’t agree more. I would definitely purchase Forever stamps (and pay a premium, even) if they did something pretty like Canada. The USPS is truly missing out on a market opportunity here.

Miss Flamingo, your stamps are beautiful!

Canadian permanent stamps look way better than the Forever Stamp!

Yeah, the Forever stamp is great for a bill, but I’d never put it on something like a wedding invitation.

Way to show us up again, Canada.

Those invitations look like a job well done!

Canada has surpassed the US in style!

At first I didn’t care what the stamp style went onto the envelope, but because I have lovingly DIY part of my invitations, it just seems so tragic to place a liberty bell onto my pretty invites! What’s a girl to do!

It’s funny - I’m Canadian too and use those stamps but now I’m waiting for them to come out with a new design! I’m getting tired of the flower! I guess the grass is always greener right…

What type of pen did you use to address your envelopes? They look amazing!

we always want what the others have right? I envy that you US gals can have custom stamps. We can here in Canada, but the stamps come out to more than 1$ each. Not worth it for me. It is just a stamp! ;)

I had the 2007 orchid design because I had purchased them before they switched to the red one. Cant wait to see the new model. I would of loved a vintage audrey hepburn stamps… oh well

I used a white gel pen for my envelopes. It was very pretty. I was happy with the result.

I just have to rant about the current ONLY CHOICE for U.S. postcards. Anyone care to guess what the only choice is? That’s right…the Florida Panther. I never figured myself to be the type of bride to worry too much about stamps, but putting the Panther in the corner of my lovely Save-the-Date postcard just hurt a little. :)

I just bought my Canadian stamps as well! I haven’t even made my invitations yet, as I am still waiting for the paper to arrive, but happened to look online to see if they showed ‘upcoming stamp designs’ or something like that. (never thought I would see the day where I would check the canada post website to see what stamps were coming out!) Anyways, to my amazement they currently have peonies on the standard stamps for spring! Well, there I was the next day in line at the post office buying my beautiful peony stamps!
Isn’t it amazing how we end up caring about all these little details we never thought would matter?

I didn’t know about the Peony stamps! So pretty!! Thanks for the heads up :-)

You are right - I never would have cared about this stuff before - but I do agree that you spend so much effort and time making beautiful invites, that it is a shame to put an ‘ugly’ stamp on the outside!

I just bought the U.S. postage for our invites today… Unfortunately they were out of the wooden motorboat and Ella Fitzgerald stamps so we went with the American Scientist stamps b/c my FI and I are Environmental Scientists. Wondering if our families are going to think we are a bit nutty!

I have a non-stamp-related question:

What did you use to write on your envelopes? I’ve got deep dark red envelopes, and i’m struggling. Yours look amazing, so I hope you cna point me in the right direction! Thanks!

@Ambyr W: I used a white gel pen… they come in various colors… you simply got to test them out. Good luck!
