Fit To Be Tied: MSW Spring 08

April 12th, 2008 @ 6:39 pm by Miss Shortcake

I was delighted when I opened the new spring issue of Martha Stewart Weddings.

Not only

A) Did I finally have my grubby little paws on a copy

B) Did she have whole spread on a 1950s vintage wedding in ” A Return to Glamour

C) Did my new colour palette appear every where in the magazine (ballet pink, white, buttercream yellow, mustard, grey, charcoal, tiffany green)

D) She had a whole article about ribbons!

Ribbons are beautiful, silky creatures. I like ribbons. I love ribbons. I love ribbons almost as much as Miss Lovebug does, although I haven’t entered a 12 step program for my addiction yet.

Yet.

I just ordered ribbons today for my card box(s)… I’m building/wrapping a “mini-mountain” of faux-gifts in our colors (& with lots-o-ribbon) with a slot for cards. It’ll also double as an un-spoken indicator for guests as to where they should put their gifts; i.e. “set the trend.” The idea is that the faux-gift-box-mini-mountain will be too big & clunky for any of those dreaded gift bandits to slip away unnoticed… and, of course, use more ribbon.

I hadn’t really thought about it yet, but I definitely should! I’m secretly proud of my bow-tying talents. I tie rockin bows on the first try. I’ll have to come up with some ways to show off and your post gave me ideas. Thanks!

damn martha! i am using ribbons in my wedding and now people are going to think I copied her.

i am having 1920s/1930s vintage feel to my wedding so will have my bouquet with ribbon streams and flowerbuds tied to the ends.

then am incoporating this into other designs in the wedding

I’m definitely using lots of ribbons, too! I requested them on my flowers. I’m using them to tie up my favors (handmade lavender eye pillows). I’m even thinking about draping colorful ribbons on the inside of my tent for decorations.. I’m still deciding if that will be more trouble than it’s worth.

I adore ribbon….such a budget friendly way to add color and decor to every part of your wedding!! I just saw the most adorable pew markers with tons of flowing ribbon, they would have fit right into this spread!

I’m using ribbons in our centerpieces - making a square out of them and placing them in the middle. Ribbons to tie the table numbers on the mason jars Ribbons on the programs (fans). Ribbons on the card box like a present. Ribbons on the flowers. Maybe ribbons to tie the napkins at the place setting - I guess I need to negotiate how to do that. Can I add I got a great deal on ribbon!
