Mini Menu Madness

April 13th, 2008 @ 4:40 pm by Mrs. Lovebug

Since we indulged ourselves with letterpress save-the-dates, invitations, programs AND cards to explain the charity tokens, I wanted to change things up a bit for the menus and do something cute and simple. Mini menu madness, in effect!

I forgot to include something in the photo to show scale - they’re about 4 inches high. Keeping them thin and short forced me to set the margins on the inside text pretty narrow, but I’m ok with that.

The “of the land/sea/coop” is a throwback to our save-the-dates, and the fonts are Feel Script and Urgent Telegram.

I printed up a stack of them on blush pink resume paper (from Kinko’s), then printed the “Menu” side on the reverse. Then I chopped ’em down to size:

(Blurry, sorry - just to give you an idea of how far over to put the opposite side’s text.)

Next I treated them to caress from the bone folder (something I scoffed at three months ago but now swear by).

Then I trimmed off the overlap:

In the meantime, I ran five inch strips of black grosgrain ribbon through the Xyron sticker maker:

The strips are then peeled off and applied to the “spine” of the menu:

Finally, I just trimmed off the excess ribbon and voila! A box full of mini menus in no time!

Ok, I lied about the “in no time” part. This was a bit time consuming…and I had only 62 to make. But I did want something to match all the other vintage-looking, typewriter/book-themed goodness on the table.

I think these would be super cute in all sorts of colors, and the grosgrain ribbon really evokes the fabric of a book.

Anyone else doin’ something a little different for their menus?

Woman, you are hard-core. I’ve given up on all my DIY projects and I can’t believe how much stuff you’re having to make your wedding such a memorable event. Your guests are so frickin lucky!

Those fonts of yours seem to make everything cool.

By the way, have you seen there’s a free typewriter keys font (as in, the actual keys) at dafont?

Sorry … realise how useless that is a few weeks before the big day, but I’ve only just seen it!

Miss Lovebug, which font did you use for these? It’s so pretty and would match perfectly with my “Menu” stamp. Thanks in advance! :)

Very cute and what a great idea!
Since we’re doing a buffet, I thought about making big tent signs identifying all of the food (and it’s ingredients for the veggies, vegans, and allergic)…

But I’m not sure how I will keep them from flying away with a gust of wind… (We’re having an outside, tented reception.)

Any ideas?

I love that Feel Script font!

I swear by it and have used it for everything, too. Your menus turned out fabulous!

Erica - 2 ideas that spring to mind … 1) use 3 sided tent signs (i.e. with a bottom part) and put a pebble or something similar in the bottom, or 2) stick the notes to something that’s already heavy, like a jam jar or wine bottle

I love the Feel Script font so hard it hurts. But I just can’t stomach spending $99 on it! Cries… I spent way too long looking for a free font that came even remotely close, and have yet to find anything quite so lovely.

dani24 … I’ve found 2 fairly similar ones that are a lot cheaper …

Monterey for $24.75 (which apparently Feel is based on)…

and Sweetheart for $19 (my favourite)

Not quite as lovely as Feel, but good enough I’d say … and it’s not as if your guests will be comparing

thanks you guys! I totally owe Mrs. Lemon big time for turning me on to the Feel Script font. It really has put such a nice stamp on everything. I only hope people don’t find it too incongruous with the Urgent Telegram (typewriter font)..

I’m so blown away by the fact that you guys see stuff online and think of me. Make me feel all famous n stuff. I have seen that typewriter key font - just didn’t quite find a use for it. YET…(she says four days out..)
