Moments To Remember?

April 13th, 2008 @ 2:30 pm by Mrs. Jelly Beans

So you spend 2 years planning and anticipating for your wedding day. Of course, aiming for perfection, down to the minute details. But you know what, I have learned that no matter how much or how long you have planned, and no matter how many lists you make- life happens! :)

I just wanted to share with all of you some of our memorable wedding moments. And maybe you can share with me some of yours?

Roll the film please!

1. Because I started semi-bawling soon after I stepped out of my limo, one of my false eyelashes fell out during our wedding vows. I swear I looked like Mike, the green creature from Monsters, Inc. At one point I looked at my best friend/bridesmaid and whispered, “my one eyelash fell off, can you tell?” Her reaction spoke volumes. So I discreetly yanked off the other one and hid them in my bundle of tissue. Needless to say we were unable to glue them back on. Note to self: Next time, minimize crying like a baby!

2. The priest didn’t seem to be on top of his game that day either. ie. Informing my wedding planner 5 minutes before the ceremony that I had to choose between the pew swags or the eucharist, totally disregarded the ceremony program that I spent days on, that he approved, told Mr Jelly Beans which finger to place the ring on despite his protests that it was the wrong finger = wedding ring shoved onto the wrong hand, officiated the shortest full Catholic mass ever and I could go on and on.

3. Mr. Jelly Beans nearly strangled me when he tried to stand up when we were both attached during the cord and veil ceremony.

4. The weather forecast called for showers, so everyone was anticipating a downpour. After taking outdoor pictures, not a second after we stepped into the reception location, there was a torrential downpour. Phew! We would have been soaked big time!

5. During the first dance of the night, as we were grooving to the long list of songs I happily provided the DJ, my pregnant co-worker’s water broke. Even her husband was in state of shock not realizing what it meant when someone told him “grab her purse, her water just broke.” I thought it was the funniest thing ever. My DOC, gosh I love her, was so on top of things asking if we needed a mop. Nope we didn’t! Another phew moment. In conclusion, a super cute baby boy was born the morning after our wedding. Congratulations Sherry and Lanny! :)

6. One of my bridesmaids accidentally set one of the menus and a napkin on fire leading to panic and a wee bit of chaos at the bridal party table. Maybe she didnt like them?

7. Illegal back flipping.

8. And last but certainly not the least, I woke up the next day, a married Jelly Bean, and my eyes were puffy and swollen shut from all my crying. I tried to enforce a strict no picture policy at the post-wedding brunch. I was going to save it for the next Rocky sequel.

So there you have it , some of the moments that made our wedding day truly a day to remember! :)

My mother has always said that my brother would lose his head if it weren’t attached by his neck.

He forgot to ask for the day off for my wedding until four days before hand.

His employers decided to make a point of it (!) and only gave him two hours off for the ceremony, which meant he had to arrive late and had to leave early. In the bustle, it didn’t occur to me that he wasn’t in any family portraits!!!

I am still pissed at them for this. They honestly could have done without him for the day. Many of them have met me before, too, and he introduced me: “this is my baby sister! she’s getting married!”

My aunt apparently photoshopped him into the extended mother’s side group shot, so I’ll have to see what that looks like.

Both Mr P and I are stressing like crazy today with last-minute wedding stuff….and so when I read this I had to share it with him. I still can’t believe all that crazy stuff happened on your wedding day! Your gorgeous pictures say otherwise and you have such a great attitude about it - I hope I’m half as calm and collected as you when unplanned things start happening at my wedding. :-)

You brought a smile to my east coast morning!Since I am a wedding musician, i do see things go differently than expected often at weddings. That’s life in all it’s glory! The key to enjoying your day? Roll with it, baby. Most “snafus” are greeted with laughter & smiles in my experience, and they are good memories that leave us laughing later ;-) !

We had a bee flying around our heads next to the altar chairs in our cathedral wedding, as the octet was singing to the heavens! The unedited video is really a hoot!! Oh…did I mention the vampire teeth my fiance’s extremely immature groomsman friend had in his mouth? Only my sister, the MOH, could see him. She was having a heart attack, while we were blissfully getting hitched. She followed him around all night - when he asked the band to play “Wipe Out” on the drums, I thought she’d die. (He is amazing musician though!)

Sorry about your priest (& planner), though. People are imperfect, yes… but you paid a lot to have them do their job on the worship service & the use of the church, etc. They didn’t quite cood. with the planner & church rules, did they? Unexpected is one thing, not checking out the details/rules is another. The Catholic church has rules that the cood (& me also, as a musician) should know about - but sometimes will ONLY communicate with the bride & good, so things get lost in the translation or forgotten. That can be hard at times. Make sure the cood. knows the rules of the your church! Of course the runners were not your fault, Mrs. Jellybean!

A note about Christian weddings:
I must say that any church wants couples to have a marriage blessed before God. So all the rest to them is fluff, and they see people concentrationing on the pagentry/ceremony, not on God’s place in the start of their marriage. They often treat the musicians & coodinators (if they are not in the congregation) as a kind of pest! They can even treat the bride & groom this way if they have not been in congregation before. This, of course is the wrong attitude - it should be welcoming!…the wedding is so often the first real step in a young couple’s Christian’s life. So just make sure when u r getting married, work on the service as much as the rest of your stuff. This is a great way to understand how God can support your marriage throughout your life also! Then find yourself a way to sustain your connection with a other the church family - ie, go to church with the hubbie, meet other Christian couples, go to Marriage Encounter, or something afterward. It took us 10 years to find a church home, and have since gone on to loving it, see God’s work in our life together.

Lastly…have you worn eyelashes before? You may have a latex allergy to the glue, hence really swollen eyes. This from a theater person. There is other types of glue for lashes.

Remember…plan, plan…then go with the flow of the best day ever! Blessings to you newlyweds!

Erica R- about the illegal back flipping…. lol! This may need a little background info… You will probably think I am insane.. :)

My MOH has a new man in her life, who has a tendency to show off… I have never met him, so I was warned by my other friends that he is over the top ie. doesnt think proposing at a best friends wedding would steal the bride’s thunder kinda guy, back flips like crazy, attention seeking, kinda self-absorbed etc…. So I dropped not so subtle hints to my MOH that my one bridal request was to ex-nay the back flipping. Well needless to say it happened. It was kinda funny cuz I missed it and my best friend was about to tell me but my MOH’s man beat her to it. He came up to me and complained that his back was hurting from the back flipping he did. And now he swears to my MOH that he never told me. So apparently I lied about the back flipping…. Go figure!!!! :) So there you have it- the back flipping saga surrounding the Jellybeans wedding!

Hi Mrs. Jelly Beans, I read one of your old boards on the vintage bird cage. Do you still have the bird cage and are you willing to sell it?? I’m looking for a vintage style bird cage too for my wedding in July 08. Let me know if you plan to sell it. Thank you.
