About Mrs. Bubblegum

Busy Bee

April 15th, 2008 @ 10:31 am by Mrs. Bubblegum

Ah, crud. I haven’t blogged since, like, March. I feel like a jerk. But I sweeeear I’ve been busy - making escort cards, bathroom baskets, favor boxes, programs, THE WORKS! So as some of that winds down, I suppose it’s time to share! Here’s the status on the escort cards I had started oh-so-long ago…

Last time we met to discuss this crucial issue, I still wasn’t sure how to stem or how to display my floral escort cards. But because you’re all BRILLIANT, the issues have been resolved:

escort5

You maaay be wondering how these bad boys came to be. Well, it was like this:

1) Stems: I must say, thank you all for your stem suggestions! I obsessed over this for quite a while, and eventually, my research led me to cloth stem wire - and if you’re looking for some at the JoAnn Fabrics in Portsmouth, NH - keep looking, because I cleeeeaned them OUT:

These are super awesome and I love them. I was really worried that any wire I used would be too flimsy, but these are perfect for all your stemming needs! I just cut these down to size and curled each end so that it wouldn’t fall through the hole in the bottom of the flower.

2) Beads: As you all so wisely suggested, I implemented a bead strategy to keep the flowers from falling down the stems. I happened to find the perfect little red beads at Michael’s, on CLEARANCE (score!!! $1.50/750 beads - I kid you not). I pushed each bead onto the stem and attached it to the bottom of the flower with permanent, clear-drying glue.

3) Vases: Miss Toucan had suggested displaying them in vases and grouping them by initials - and, well, what Toucs says goes. I had found some red vases on sale circa Christmas - 6 to be exact. Each vase will hold about 20-25 flowers and will represent A-F, G-Whatever.

So, in case you haven’t noticed, these have not yet fully evolved into escort cards - but come April 25th, when the RSVPs are due (because no one would DARE send it late, yes?), my escort cards will truly blossom!

They’re great! Origami is so fun, and I love the idea of adding more flowers at low cost (well, if you don’t count all that time spent folding)

Did I miss it–how are you going to add the names to them?

I’d love to see your final product!

MissRuffles - I belieeeeve they were about 5.5×5.5.

Brendlynn - I haven’t blogged about it yet, or done it for that matter - but the plan is to add tags - you’ll see! :)

That’s a really unique idea! I always love paper flowers but never knew really a good way to incorporate them into escort cards.

These are really cute. How do the guests know which flower is theirs? Do they keep picking flowers and opening them until they find their name inside one? Just wondering…

Hi Mrs Bubblegum–I hope your wedding went well and you’ll remember imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

I did my own origami lily escort cards, and I thought I would post how I attached the leaves because I don’t think I ever saw a follow-up post from you.
