Revisiting The Shoes

April 15th, 2008 @ 2:38 pm by Mrs. Toucan

Since I changed my mind about my dress, I thought I should also revisit my shoe decision. I’ve always known that I didn’t want to wear white shoes - mostly because I knew I probably wouldn’t wear them again, but also because I really wanted fun pink shoes! Originally, I was looking for a pale pink shoe because my first dress had a lot of pink undertones, and I didn’t think what I really wanted (hot pink/fuschia shoes) would really match the style of the dress. Now with a less traditional dress, perhaps I can choose even less traditional shoes?

I raided the department stores last weekend, and surprisingly it was MUCH easier to find hot pink shoes than pale pink shoes - and as an added bonus, shoes in my size!

Here’s what I found:

Carlos Santana Roulette:

I bought these from Macy’s with a couple pair of shoes for my bridesmaids. Macy’s was running a sale last weekend, and had special discounts for purchasing multiple pairs of shoes! Anyway, I thought they were really cute and a little crazy (which I like), but after testing them out a little at home, I think they might be going back to the store. They weren’t exactly the most comfortable pair of shoes…

BCBGirls Isabel:

I’ve been lusting after these shoes since I started my pink shoe search and resisted buying them only because it was the wrong shade of pink. Then, I saw “Blair” from Gossip Girl (ahh! it’s my guilty pleasure!) wearing them, and wanted them so much more. By the time I got to my computer to order they no longer had my size, so I decided to check my local store. My Nordstroms store didn’t actually have this shoe in my size (or this shoe at all), but they were able to get them from another store - and at 50% off! I’ll be able to test those bad boys on my feet by tomorrow. :)

What do you think? Are you wearing bright colored shoes for your wedding?

Oh my goodness I WANT those! I clicked rignt over to see if I could get a pair of my own-alas, at $100 they are far too expensive for me to justify. I already have my wedding shoes anyway…but those are gorgeous! I am so jealous.

@S: I wasn’t willing to spend $100 for non-wedding shoes either (which is why I didn’t buy them to begin with), but they are actually on sale for $48.99 or something like that if you purchase them in the stores. I guess some sales are in the stores and not online. :)

The Carlos Santana shoes are gorgeous and so much fun to look at. The Nordstrom ones are beautiful and probably be better for your feet! Both super cute and loving the little peep toe!

Yes! I just ordered these: http://www.piperlime.com/browse/product.do?cid=19831&pid=572504&scid=572504002

I’m sure they’re murder, but I’ve convinced myself that I can break them in over the next six months so that I can at least wear them to the ceremony.

So fab!!

I also went for the practicality of the non-white shoes. I wanted something comfortable, which means not cheap, so I knew I needed to get something I’d wear again. Who wears white shoes?

When I went shopping, my little dream was to walk out with a stunningly colorful pair of shoes. I found a shoe (by Nina) that fit sooo well, I knew I had to get it. It came in hot pink, which was o so tempting, but I ended up going with a gold pair. I love they way they look, and I wear a lot of gold, so I will definitely be able to wear them again. I’m having a hard time keeping them pristine in my closet until the wedding!

Yep, dark purple for me. I never ever considered doing a white/ivory shoe, it was always about a little burst of color under the skirt. Like a little “surprise!”

Yes I am wearing bright pink shoes! Check out the Stuart Weitzman solitaire shoes in fuschia! I love the bow and the jewel in the center! The line from Sex and the City “Hello lover” comes to find everytime I put them on!

I’m wearing silver peep toes for the ceremony and completely over-the-top turquoise sling backs with flower embellishments on the toes for the reception - my something blue! shoes were especially important for me as I’m wearing a cocktail-length wedding dress.

Yay, shoes! I love this post! The shoes you bought at Macy’s are competely FAB and sassy, and I would keep them. However, I don’t think you should wear them to your wedding! Definitely not formal enough! Maybe if the horsebits were flowers, bows, or Swarovski embellishments, they would look more formal. As they are, you could (and should!) wear them to your rehearsal dinner and/or bachelorette party.

Also, with bridal wear, there is something so special about an element of the demure, almost as if to indicate that you are taking the event seriously and focusing on the life transition at hand. (Am I a crazy for thinking this can be indicated by your shoes?)

Basically I think it’s better to lean toward a sweet type of bridal (not necessarily white, of course)… this was my inclination when gown shopping. It was like, “too much diva, not enough bride,” with certain dresses. You can get dolled up anytime, but bridal gorgeousness is, wonderfully, a bit different than everday glamour.

That said, I think the BCBGirls heels are very bridal and elegant, even in that hot color. They are wonderfully formal, super feminine and they have a great tango look.

What is the style/feel of your dress?

Since I tango, I splurged on a pair of high-end tango shoes (Comme Il Faut). Not only are they very sleek/fun/sexy, but super comfortable while still looking fabulous and I know I’ll get a ton of use out of them.

They are very hard to find in traditional bridal colors, so I opted for a hot pink strappy design. The dress is fairly traditional with some very modern elements and I felt the hot pink shoes would be a fun surprise when they peep out every so often. Definitely reflects my personality.

If hot pink makes you happy - go for it!
