Top Honors

April 15th, 2008 @ 1:09 pm by Mrs. Petunia

This post is dedicated to Weddingbee reader beanchar, my sweet bean, who one fateful Bee TV broadcast night found me the hat of my dreams.

You see, I wanted a certain Mr. Monopoly vibe at the wedding. Someone even threw out the idea of a cane too, but even I knew to draw the line. But I was set on a top hat. Now groom Petunia was a no-go, but the 8 year old just couldn’t say no. And that’s how we ended up with a top hat-stylin’ ringbearer, here walking down the aisle with his arch-nemesis looking on (that would be the six year old in the light pink dress):

The hat made its rounds, too. First BIL Petunia donned it for a while, though there is no evidence to prove it. Then my younger brother took it for a spin:

Of course, a certain bride rocked it for a while, too:

How could I resist?

That’s awesome! My DH has a small top hat collection so the Christmas before our wedding I bought him the “cadalliac” of all top hats, a silk collapsable top hat. Men used to wear them to the opera and would collapse them to fit under their seats. We had lots of fun with it in pictures…

I saw the top hat, and immediately thought: “Uncle Pennybags!” My next thought? “Where’s the monocle?” Then I conveniently remembered that yes, there is a top-hat playing piece as well…so the monocole wasn’t technically required. :-) It’s a great little nod to the game, and you never know when a top hat may come in handy one day…

My fiance would LOVE to add a top hat into the mix, but only in the context of one of his groomsmen wearing it, a leather vest, and his tux pants and playing the guitar outtro to “November Rain” (yes, keep the image of Slash in mind) as we leave church. Three guesses to what my reaction was…teehee.

I love your pink aisle runner! Are you by chance willing to sell it if you kept it?

I want to take this moment to point out that Mrs. Petunia’s ENTIRE FAMILY is BEAUTIFUL. I don’t know what you people are eating, but keep it up.

@elizabeth - “In the cold Novemba raiiiiin….” you ARE going to do that, right?

Way to go, beanchar!

@Darla: Darla, the hat is from http://tinytux.com/ — go bean!

@Angel: That would be a pewter ring with some ribbons on it. LOL, Mr. P was NOT a fan. You can read about it here: http://www.weddingbee.com/2007/08/13/awake-and-agreeable/

@Emilie: Emilie, I cannot actually believe this, but I don’t believe anyone remembered to collect the aisle runner for us =(

@Fox&theHound: Okay, those pictures are to die for!

and @mhb: @Miss S: you two are TOO sweet!
