Whirlwind Wedding Prep Weekend

April 15th, 2008 @ 3:06 pm by Mrs. Jasmine

Mr. Jasmine and I are heading to Los Angeles tomorrow for our “Whirlwind Wedding Prep Weekend”. It’s more like an extra-long weekend since we’ll be there Wednesday night through Sunday, but we have a lot to accomplish. Among the tasks we intend to cross off our “To-Do List” while in LA:

(1) Attend our tasting at the InterContinental Hotel: I’m a little nervous. What if we hate the food? It’s too late to do anything about it. I’m hoping everything turns out well and that we enjoy the dinner. We’ll be accompanied by our lovely coordinator Angel Swanson of Events of Love and Splendor. Angel will be doing a walk-through with us as it will probably be our last time at the venue until the big day.

(2) Get our marriage license: Ahhh!!! This is definitely the most exciting part of our weekend because it means the wedding is almost here (or at least within the next 90 days).

(3) Meet with our officiant: Mr. Jasmine and I will be married by Sheikh Yassir Fazaga. We first read about Sheikh Fazaga in a New York Times article last year and I also heard him on KROQ’s “Ask a Muslim” segment. I can’t wait to get to know him better and plan our ceremony.

(4) Bridal Lehnga fitting: I haven’t seen my lehnga in person since I ordered it last year and I’m *dying* to put it on, particularly since I made a few adjustments to the design of the blouse. It’s been in since February so it’s taken all my willpower not to jump on a plane beforehand to take a look. Please send your good juju that it’s loose :)

(5) Centerpiece Mockup: Angel, my mom, and I will head to our florist, Commerce Flowers, to see a mockup of our centerpieces and my bouquet! I’m thrilled to see what Eddie comes up with. We’ll also be going over details of our wedding ceremony canopy.

(6) Cake Tasting: Time to get my sweet tooth on! We’ll be tasting cake from For the Love of Sugar, the same baker who made Mrs. Lime’s cake. We requested mango, coconut, pistachio, and red velvet– I wonder which one I’ll like best.

(7) Bridal Shower: Well, I’ll be attending the bridal shower and Mr. Jasmine gets to spend quality time with my dad and brother :) It’s almost surreal to think that this is *my* bridal shower– after attending so many others, I can’ t believe it’s my turn. It hasn’t quite sunk in yet.

Wish us luck– I will blog about everything when I return!

Thank goodness the weather will be better than last weekend. It should be high 60’s - low 70’s. Last weekend was 95 - 102! We were melting :(

Good luck! If it makes you feel any better, we just had our tasting two weeks ago (it would’ve been too late to change anything anyway) and it was delicious! I’m sure yours will be too :)

Have a safe trip!
I also heard your Officiant on KROQ, sounded like a person I’d like to meet.

Apply for your license online through the LA county recorder’s office!!! http://www.lavote.net

I filled out the information the day before, and picked up the license the next day without having to wait like everyone else there! Just make sure you bring your ID and show up in person!

Yes, definitely fill the form out online before you go and get your license. It makes the process so much faster. Oh, and make sure you leave the “wedding date” field blank. If you fill it in, it won’t let you proceed to the next page until it is 15 days till your wedding. Don’t know why the site does that, but everyone knows to leave the field blank to get it done! hahahah

I had my shower this past weekend, and yes, it felt strange to finally go to a shower for “me”. I hope your shower goes great!

You will LOVE what Eddie from Commerce Flowers shows you during your mock up. He is wonderful to work with. I am using him as my florist as well. Don’t be afraid to make suggestions if the centerpieces aren’t perfect (which they probably will be). He will make any changes for you on the spot. Have a great weekend.

what a packed trip! I’ll be doing something similarly whirlwind-y in June. Oh the joys of domestic
‘destination’ wedding planning..
