$20 Dress/ $24 Sash

April 16th, 2008 @ 9:24 am by Mrs. Penguin

A followup on the Target.com flower girl dress* and the Nimli.com sash I bought for our flower girl…

I apologize for not taking pictures of the dress on our flower girl! When the dress first came in, we put it on her to see how it fit, and she was devastated when she had to take it off, so I didn’t want to have to put her through that again.

Here is the dress - as is. It comes with some interesting bows and ties both in the front and the back. I trimmed them off.

Here’s the dress with the silk charmeuse sash in grey to match our bridesmaids dresses.

For the price, the dress is really great. Target.com, at any time (although I suspect your best bet is around spring/Easter) has great toddler dresses that typically cost right around $20 and compare to many of the $150 dresses I’ve seen at bridal salons in style. Sure, the material is synthetic, but when your flower girl rolls around in the dirt in her dress that she may never wear again, you can smile rather than shriek. Yay for bargains!

* This dress is no longer available in white, but is still available in Soft Pink and Pale Yellow.

Feel free to brag about your bargain flower girl finds in the comments!

Miss Penguin I have been waiting for a review and you have persuaded me that a Target dress, just might do the trick! I honestly can’t ask the parents to spend $150 on a white dress the girls won’t wear again and my idea was like yours, to trim the bows and add my own sash. I think this will be amazing! Thanks so much for the help!

Not really a comment on a bargain, but a thank you for pointing me to the sashes at Nimli.com – I just picked up a few for myself and I actually think that I’m going to have my bridesmaids wear black dresses with sashes in either fuchsia or violet (my colors) – this way they get to wear a dress they like and, more importantly, can wear again, while still wearing something that ties into the color scheme. So, thanks! :)

Nothing to do with flower girl dresses, but I actually just went to Nimli this morning to buy pashminas for the bridesmaids.

If anyone reads this and is interested, you can get 20% off your order with the coupon code: SPRING08
It expires 4/27/08. :)

My daughter was a flower girl not too long ago. It was a similar style dress. I got her a sash in her favorite color for after the wedding. She wore it a couple of more times. Once to a father/daughter dance and then as part of a princess costume for Halloween. Now that I think of it, it cost us about $30 for every time she wore it. On behalf of parents everywhere I thank you for your Target suggestion :)

I got a beautiful “Cinderella” brand ivory flower girl dress at TJ Maxx for $30. They also had them at Burlington Coat Factory and Marshalls. I was really surprised by the good quality, plus now I don’t have to feel bad when it’s ruined at the end of the day.

Yay for easter dresses! We got engaged 3/16, and I hit the easter sales immediately afterwards. I got 3 flowergirl dreses (2 from Macys with a perfectly coordinated sage green sash) for less than $70 in one day. Since then, I haven’t seen a dress for less than $120.

Love that dress!! My flower girl is wearing it. FYI, if you plan on ordering it (or in her case, her mom did), the top is a little large for the stated size, so I know we are having to shorten the shoulder straps.

I actually got my sash to coordinate from Ann Taylor celebrations. A word on AT Celebrations: if you have a color/style in mind, wait until the fall when the roll out the “new” season. We got our dresses for $65 each and our sash for $8. (Regularly $150 or so and $35 respectively.)

Love it! Now, where can I find a little boy bow tie in the same light blue as the Ann Taylor bridesmaid dresses? I can’t find one anywhere!!

I got my flower girl dresses on gymboree.com. They are $59.50, so a little more expensive but are silk dupioni which will go well with my Ann Taylor bridesmaids dresses. You can’t get the flower girl dresses in the store, but my mom and I happened upon one and they are adorable. Much better looking than online.

Elizabeth M: Does Ann Taylor have the bow ties? I know they were carrying ties for awhile, it might be worth it to call.

@Beckums~:
The dress is still available in Pink and Yellow and the sashes are all still on sale at almost 80% off original price so I’m not entirely sure why the sarcasm was called for but you’re welcome.

Thank you Miss Penguin!! I have been searching high and low for a yellow flower girl’s dress - and I fell in love with one that was $240… and now, thanks to you, we have a beautiful dress for $20. My family had been teasing me about how much time I’ve spent on weddingbee - but now they are realizing how much I’ve saved thanks to all of you!
Thanks!!

Yeah, Ann Taylor doesn’t have matching little kid ties–just for groomsmen. Thanks!
