RSVP - Oui Ou Non?

April 16th, 2008 @ 4:15 pm by Mrs. Bubblegum

For some crazy reason, getting RSVP’s back in the mail has been RIDICULOUSly fun - so much so that Mr. BG and I frequently argue over who gets to open them - if it’s post-marked in Vermont, he gets it. Massachusetts and California are mine. And there is nothing more disappointing than having zero little green envelopes in the mailbox.

I think the appeal here lies in the fact people never fail to surprise you. For example:

1) Of the first 47 people who responded, we received 47 “accept”s - GASP. Are we popular or what?? At this point, you start to wonder if expecting fewer guests than you’ve invited was ever a wise move… what’s your experience? Are “yes”s just more likely to respond sooner? Do people like to put off rejection? Or are we just that cool?

2) People seem to dislike you wanting to know when they’re in town and where they’re staying. Some people flat-out refused to fill out their little worksheets. Others left helpful tidbits such as these:

rsvp1

3) Bubbles confuse people. It’s like this weird little social experiment to see how people fill the bubbles. Some fill. Some check. Some “x.” Some do all three (look closely), and some have traumatic actuarial exam flashbacks:

Bottom line - RSVPs = FUN. What are your fun RSVP stories??

My RSVP postcards are going to my parents house since they are the ones paying for it all and need the head count for the caterer and when they told me that two came in the mail today I was totally excited too. Can’t explain it, I just know what you mean :)

Getting the mail has become my favorite part of the day since our invitations went out. Yesterday was the first day we didn’t get any back in the mail and it was actually kind of sad. Our big RSVP issue is since we are having 3 meal choices we asked people to put their initals next to their meal choice. About half the ones we have gotten back just have “x” or checks next to the choices so we have no idea who wants what, unless they want the same thing.

Love/hate relationship with mine. Loved getting them at first. Day 1 we had 6 cards. A steady stream of them for the first 10 days including a day when I got 14 no’s. That was exciting (we need lots of no’s). I received a couple cards where people added a guest. That pissed me off. Then a slow down. A huge slow down. Days without them. 1 a day, 2 a day. All yes’. I want some no’s. You know you aren’t coming just send the thing in. They have 3 weeks!

I’m totally with you here. We started getting ours back on Monday. Of the first 7 people we have they have all been yeses. I think I am going to be checking the mail everyday for the next month and a half.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks this is the funnest part so far! LOL. I love getting little notes.

We also have received a very high percentage of yeses so far (not even a week after mailing the invites). I’m only moderately concerned, though, because my mom stands by her method of estimating guest count. Apparently, you guesstimate that the total number of guests will be approximately equal to the number of actual invitations you sent out. We’ll see how that goes.

Well I have yet to send mine out but I’m really looking forward to it!
For one I’m having serious anxiety about no one coming! Maybe it’s the high school girl in me who’s afraid no one is going to come to her party?! Also my fiance and I kept the invite list to strict VIPs in order to keep cost down, we want a smallish wedding (50-70ppl) but I want the chairs to be filled! So I’m totally looking forward to knowing for sure who will be there and if we need to send out invites to the ‘B’ team.

I had the same situation as Laura–they went to my parents house. The only thing that I regretted missing out on were the people who couldn’t come, but included a note of apology with the worksheet. My mom never seemed to remember to give them to me, but I always head about the nice things that they said….

We sent our our invites out a couple weeks ago and i look forward to going home to see whether we get new rsvps every day. I think my favorite part is the little notes that people write on the cards…I wish we’d actually printed some lines at the bottom to encourage more people to write notes.

So far we’ve only had one rsvp come back with “attends with pleasure” checked…but no name written! Luckily we numbered the cards, so we knew who it came from. :)

ours are going to FI’s parents house, too, because we might have to move before the wedding (that’s a whole ‘nother story….). His mom has been giving us updates every week and promised to hold on to all of them so we can see them next time we visit (my crazy request). But, it’s so exciting, the boy has to seriously restrain me from calling every day just to see if a new one has arrived (our count so far: 11 yes and 5 no, but there’s still 1.5 more months until they’re due).

hee, hee! This was fun to read!

My RSVP’s are coming in droves, and the funniest so far is that my dog has RSVP’d! Complete with little paw prints for EACH of the meals! Too funny! My sister did my calligraphy, and I’m wondering if she sent my dad two reply cards, just so that he could make that happen.

You should’ve put an asterisk at the bottom:

I loved getting RSVPs in the mail…I felt like i was back in college being all excited when someone actually sent me a piece of mail. The frustrating part was receiving incorrectly filled-out responses. I even got a few back that were COMPLETELY BLANK. No name. Nuthin. Thank goodness we had numbered all the postcards or else we would have been in real trouble!

It looks like you used the oft-suggested printing each person’s name with a response option to control the guest list idea! How is that working for you? Have you had any people write in additions or anything?

Yiska - it’s working out pretty well! No one has written in a name - but it has prompted a number of people to ask if so-and-so is invited. We say no. :)

Miss Bubblegum– did you handwrite all of the names or have them printed with the invites? We might do that, too, since we’re having different meal options and want to know who wants what.

We’re going to have RSVPs through our website… I can’t wait to see the comments people leave!

Robin - I’m not sure if this is what you meant, but I was just responding to Yiska’s comment about writing in each person’s name on the RSVP card so that there’s no confusion as to who’s invited.

Briannie - We printed our invites ourselves, so we just went through and printed them one-by-one. It actually didn’t take too long!

@Miss Bubblegum: @Miss Bubblegum:
I am no longer confused, thank you. I had a very long day yesterday and that may have been why I couldn’t make sense of things. Thanks again & Congrat’s!
