A Pop Of Color - More Pink Shoes!

April 17th, 2008 @ 4:20 pm by Mrs. Toucan

I’m pretty sure the salespeople at Macy’s think I’m a crazy lady. I’m sure because of the sale they were running on the weekend they saw lots of ladies walking out with multiple pairs of shoes, but I’m pretty sure I was probably the only one walking out with multiple pairs of shoes all in the same shade of HOT PINK.

Though I did buy one pair for myself (the Carlos shoes), the rest were for my bridesmaids! A little unconventional, yes, because my bridesmaids are wearing BLUE! I’ve found that the color that I’ve chosen for my ladies is a little hard to match without getting dyed-to-match shoes. Even though I wasn’t crazy about the idea, I told them that wearing black shoes would probably be fine. Then, the Macy’s shoe sale happened (me + shoe sales = danger), and I thought… why try to match at all? Since hot pink/fuschia is my other wedding color (and I LOVE bold-colored shoes), I quickly picked up a few pairs of pink shoes and raced home to test out the combo.

Ta-da! Here I’m wearing my sister’s dress and the shoes I bought her:

You may notice, these are the same shoes as Miss Dahlia’s except in pink!

Another view without my ugly couch in the background:

The side view:

(hehe… you can see how big the shoes are on me!)

Probably not what most people think bridesmaid shoes should be, but I like it anyway! :) I love the sudden pop of color, and I think it will tie in more nicely when the girls are holding bouquets with matching pink ribbon wraps.

I’m a little afraid to ask, but I’ll ask anyway. What do you think? Would you do a bold bridesmaid shoe?

You know, blue with hot pink sounds horrible, but the pictures look really good! I like it!

I really like how it looks with the dresses! (And I love those shoes!)

CUUUTE! I think they’ll love them!

I think it’s a fun touch! especially when it’s in a color that coordinates with the rest of the wedding. A hot pink pashmina might be a really nice accent as well! And honestly speaking, as a bridesmaid, I’d be inclined to just go with whatever the bride wanted bar from her wanting me to walk down the aisle in my birthday or bathing suit.

my bridesmaids are all wearing bold-coloured shoes, and in different colours - purple, yellow and hot pink - with black/grey cocktail dresses. yay for non-traditional bridesmaids’ shoes!

I think it looks really good, and it connects your bridesmaids with you a little more with the matching shoes.

That could make a cool picture too.

Toucs: I love that combination! I saw it on Coren Moore bridesmaid dress and thought it was wonderful. Too late to change my colors now. :) Though I am making them wear hot pink dresses.

I told my one of my bridesmaids that I was thinking of having her wear a grey or silverish dress with bright red shoes. She wasn’t too thrilled with the idea. But unfortunitly for her I’m paying for the dresses and shoes. LoL. So she’ll wear what I buy her. Kidding, but for real she’s real hesitant at the idea.

laragale says:

Absolutely adorable! I also love bold shoes and its looks like something the bridesmaids will wear again which is great.

I love the way that it looks and the extra pop of color to tie in your other wedding colors. The shoes are adorable and are sure to be a favorite that the girls will all wear again! Nicely done!

Nice combo but I don’t think I could wear bold bridesmaid shoe with the dress. I recently brought a navy dress and want to spice up the dress and shoes with different combo colors of apple Green, yellow or red shoes but my friend said it looks weird with those combo on a navy dress, so I took her advice to go with silver just to be on the safe side. I just don’t have guts!

Looks aside, can you be sure they will fit and be comfortable for everyone? Not sure I’d like a bride buying my shoes for me sight unseen (or tried on, for that matter.)

Miss S says:

LOVE it!!!!! And those shoes are to die for! I really need to haul my booty over to Macy’s!

I couldn’t agree with everyone above more - I LOVE this combo! It looks so fun and sassy.

Your colors remind me of this wedding that our wedding photographer shot: http://www.kristinspencer.com/blog/C586723384/E20070629172415/index.html

ecochicbride says:

this totally works! have you seen the combos on j.crew?! that’s what it reminded me of. and at first this is one of things i wanted too, have a different color shoe to offset the solid dresses. it’s cute! i saw on the knot that navy and fuchsia are one of the trendy color combos! go with it! i have 3 girls in solid choc brown and i’m thinking colored shoes would be cute than brown.

A lady in my office’s daughter is doing the samething and I wasn’ really a fan unitl I saw your picture!
P.S. Much better than black which my mother would tell you… black and blue makes you look like a bruise.

lauren f says:

i love that combo! great job miss toucan!

38.
brendalynn says:

I like it. But since it is a little out-on-a-limb, I wonder if all of your bridesmaids are going to feel the same way… you’re kinda asking them to buy into a trend that they might not buy into (yet–I’m sure they will eventually) :)

39.
kristaleigh says:

LOVE. I think that looks incredibly fabulous.

And that is my first weddingbee comment. Hooray! :)

Hooray! I’m glad you all like it as much as I do! :)
@daydreamer33: funny you mentioned pashminas! I just bought them all hot pink/fuschia pashminas/shawls from Nimli!
@Kayleigh: I asked all my bridesmaids what shoe size they were before I bought the shoes. Also, I bought them to check the color combo first (after all you can return shoes), and when I figured out that it worked in my book, I sent them these exact pictures to see what they thought of it. They all love the idea because it’s different, and it was much better than the idea of dyed to match shoes.
@Erica: The bouquets are actually going to be a pale pale shade of pink with the hot pink ties/ribbons to match the shoes. I wanted my bouquet to stand out a bit more, so mine will be the hot pink/fuschia color. :)
@Miss Tiramisu: I totally thought of that picture too! I love it!
@brendalynn: it is out on a limb, i know! not to worry though, I checked with them first! :)
@kristaleigh: I’m honored! ;) welcome to weddingbee! :)

I love that navy dress and I really like the pop of pink.

Stephanielee says:

I love that idea! I too had blue bridesmaid dresses and couldn’t figure what to do for shoes. I ended up going with the “just wear black shoes” route, but if the wedding wasn’t just over a week away, you might have convinced me to change my mind!

43.
mee says:

Ummm… I’m going to be the only dissenter and say I don’t like this look at all. It doesn’t scream classic to me, but to each bride her own.

44.
Elisa says:

I LOVE those dresses. Where did you get them??

45.

Miss Toucan says:

@mee: It’s okay, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I actually expected more people to NOT like the idea. I don’t think I’m the “classic bride” type, so the shoes aren’t classic at all, which is precisely why I like it. :)
@Elisa: I had the my bridesmaid dresses made in Shenzhen over Christmas/New Year’s. I wrote more about it here.
:)

GetMarried4Less says:

i love a funky look that screams the personality of the bride! so i will chime in that i love it too!

can’t wait to see the pictures.

i actually want my bouquet to really stand out too….i’m wanting a red chromatic bouquet…but no idea what color to give my maids. if i give them the orange, then i dont think mine will really pop as much……

47.
Angie says:

I love it. I’m a little surprised by that (I’m not a fan of pink) but I think it’s an awesome look, very personalized. I think the colors compliment each other really well.

48.
pinkybinky86 says:

i just listed some hot pink shoes in the classifieds section if any of your Bmaids are a size 7 and want a 4 and a half inch heel shoe. Kind of tall I know. I love the idea of a bold colored shoe. I’m doing a hot pink shoe with my white dress.

49.
Yeehaa says:

I am looking for pink shoes to go with my ivory dress. Can anyone help?

sakarina says:

Could you PLEASE tell me where you got those shoes?! I’ve been looking all over the (cyber) place for pink (nine west jojus, right?) shoes and I cannot find that style in pink. I bought the “light silver” satin ones with the hope of finding out you had bought the same and dyed them hot pink…please help me!!
