Formally… And Not So Formally

April 17th, 2008 @ 1:00 pm by Mrs. Petunia

Ah, formal pictures: the cornerstone of wedding photography!

I must admit to having almost nixed these altogether. After all, we had hired a photography studio with a background in photojournalism for a reason, no? But I’m glad I was convinced. There’s something to be said for having proper pictures taken on the day you’ll probably look your best, as will the rest of your bridal party and family. Do especially take formal pictures with them, seeing as to how much time, effort, and money they too invest.

Do note that formal picture time is a time vacuum though, sucking you away from the moments when all of your guests are otherwise enjoying tasty delights, sipping sweet mimosas.

Best way to make the session fun? For every formal shot taken, counter with a silly one:

What great pictures! I was almost going to nix the formals too, except for the fact that my mother and sister REQUIRE them ;)
I like what you did. I think maybe I’ll suggest that to my photographer.

Beautiful pictures, and I especially love the ’silly’ ones - helps me remember that you are real people and not perfect models :)

I love your dress more every time I see it - I have to get me to a Pronovias sharpish! (any one know any stockists in the Chicago area?)

I had to throw in some exaggerated frowns to keep my smile from becoming wooden.
