For Sale: Polebridge Mercantile

Missoula.com Magazine has a great story about the Polebridge Mercantile, which is currently for sale. We’re aware of this and it’s not a huge roadblock… the mercantile has been on the market for some time and likely will be on the market for some time longer.
I wanted to share this article because it really embodies the essence of the place that we want to impart on our guests. I particularly love this excerpt:

Left behind is town and all the hurry-up that means. Out ahead is wildness, if not wilderness, the unknown and the other. It’s like some ancient metaphor, this road as penance, stripping away worldly distractions one by one before you can find what really matters. And there, at the end of the road, the rapture, heavenly manna. Fresh-baked bread. And cinnamon rolls. And sinful huckleberry bearclaws, piping hot straight from the oven.“We’re like a cozy enclave in the wilderness,” [Deb] Kaufman said of her tiny store. “The length of the road, the primitive condition of the road, it makes a psychological transition, and gives the illusion that you’re very, very far away.”

As you can see in this aerial photo, Polebridge is quite small and the buildings are set close together.

I’m sure you can find the Mercantile… they’re providing our cake, some cherry tartlets, and possibly other pastries. The building in the left foreground, hidden behind the trees is the Northern Lights Saloon. They’re providing our catering, and most likely our booze.

We’ll be getting married in a wedding circle that is set back in the trees near the creek. I don’t think you can see it in the photo, but you might be able to find the path. Our reception will be tented, as is the one in the photo, but I think our tent is about twice that size. I could be wrong.

What’s missing from this picture is the wooden stage, which is located (I think) next to the red barn under the “AV” in the word “Gravity” and approximately where the trailer is sitting. The sound booth is back by the tree.

I love that you can see some fire damage on the ridge in this photo and behind it the mountains in Glacier and Canada. We’re really getting married in the ass end of nowhere and I love it!

the merchantile has been for sale for years, right? We were up there almost two years ago and it had the for sale sign up then too. I wonder how much its selling for?

They have the best damn pastries I’ve ever tasted in my life. bar none.

I’m so damn jealous.

Hey Miss Cherry Pie.. you should check out this wedding featured on the knot… it was at Krueger Farm in Portland, but I thought of you for the colors and “rustic elegance”
