Tables and Makeup, Oh My!

April 18th, 2008 @ 3:20 pm by Mrs. Sundae

We’re heading up to Wisconsin this weekend for a mock-up of our reception tables and for a hair and makeup trial! I am so excited I can hardly sit in my chair. I guess after all these months of planning, knowing that things are getting close and finally being able to do trial runs makes it seem so real…this is actually going to happen!

My Mom is bringing up two table runners - one without any edging and another (this cracks me up) that has ribbon on one side and bias tape on another. She wanted me to be able to see the difference between the two and decide which one I like, so she lightly attached both. Yet another reason to love Mama Sundae.

After the tables are situated, I’m having a hair and makeup trial at The Abbey Spa. After my last experience, I’ll admit that I am pretty nervous. This time I’m armed with inspiration pictures, but I’m trying to think of other ways I can decrease the odds of looking like a drag queen. I tried to be as specific as possible with the pictures. Here is my favorite one (source):

I love her makeup, and while she obviously has some really nice thick hair I think I can pull off something similar. I want a little more hair pulled back on the sides, so that I can do something like this with it (source):

Aside from bringing pictures and accurate descriptions of what I want, how do I decrease my chances of looking like I did before? Any tips and/or advice is greatly appreciated!

Be assertive! Watch what the artist is picking up out of her makeup supply. YOU are paying her for her service, so there isn’t any need to worry about hurting her feelings. Tell her you would like to watch what she is doing in the mirror. If she picks up blue eyeshadow, ask her what she is going to do with it.

I doubt that either of you have time to waste each others time so make sure that you let her know what you really want by telling her, don’t just assume that showing her a picture will do the job.

i love your inspiration picture!

if you have a veil/tiara, it’d be helpful to bring that along. if not, just bring a picture of veil and tiara that you’re thinking (if you’re going to wear one).
also… show a picture of your dress. basically just so that the stylist have more picture on how are you going to look like.

I would bring a picture of what happened last time and tell her that’s definitely what you don’t want. That combined with images of what you do want should be helpful!

i 2nd Becky. show her the drag queen pics….and show her other pics of what you DO NOT like. so there is no confusion.

and just to drive the point home tell them you will NOT be happy if your makeup looks like that.

The woman in your inspiration pic is wearing alot of makeup. My FSIL did a great thing with her makeup artist by having her apply the makeup in stages. So she started her off with a very natural, sheer foundation, blush-mascara-&-glass only look, and then took her to a few middle ground looks, and then all the way up to full makeup drama with smoky eyes, false lashes & full coverage foundation. Meanwhile, my FSIL had a picture taken at each phase so she could see how it looked in print before she made a decision. Good luck!
